That's a great deal! Hopefully it's not all modern and you get some nice older coins. Keep us posted.

Depends how many duplicate coins are in the lot.
If there are any silver coins in that lot, it would be a great buy!
Nickel is currently around $7.50 / pound. If there were any pure nickel coins in the lot, it would be a more attractive purchase. The scrap value of copper nickel coins would be about $3.50 / pound.
The current scrap value of pure copper is currently around $2.50 / pound, so if there were no clad zinc or steel coins in the lot, you would be ahead in scrap value from any point of view.
Clad coins don't have any real value even as scrap, due to the cost of the separation of the metals from which they are made. All you can do is re circulate these.
The price per pound for the lot is $3. If the seller finds that he can get much more than that, he may very well change his mind about selling.
I wonder how well this lot has been searched through by a collector or dealer during it's period of accumulation?
If there is any scarce dates errors or varieties to be found, you would not be short of specialist collectors wishing to pick these up, as enworb has indicated. You won't know that until the lot is searched through in detail.
At 50 pounds, if the coins average around 5 grammes each, that makes the number of coins in the lot at well over 4,000 pieces.
