SilverSchmitt,

You can get an idea on value using ebay sold values. Just find one that is the same grade and similar toning.

Must admit I'm not into this sort of toning either.

There is value in this type of toning for people who like this deep color. I expect you could get a little more for that coin in the right auction. For me, I echo Frog's preferences and prefer something a little less drastic.

Thanks for sharing with us.

Thanks everyone for your input. I actually really like this but I wouldn't pay for in a coin either. I had compared some ebay and a Heritage comp. Not too many look like this that show sold prices. Just listed or crossed "best offer" list prices.

Really appreciate your thoughts and looking forward to learning more from here!

I love toned coins, BUT, this one isn't attractive to my eye. Which goes to the comments saying the value is very subjective. I likely wouldnt be willing to go MS64 value on it.

Rainbow toned and bullseye tone can pull high prices depending on what the buyer wants. Some toning without nice eye appeal will actually hurt value. I think this 1921 does not have the eye appeal to get to higher prices.

Toned coins baffle me. Like I mentioned, I like some types of toning but not to the extent I would pay much of a premium for it. If it comes in a lot of something else I like or I like it and the price is what I would normally pay for it.ok. I do have someone coming to pick it up for $50 over so at least he likes it enough. The other 5 I'm looking to move are pretty straight looking64s.

The brown toning on your coin is not going to add value at time of resale. I would call the toning on your coin a natural to add value. The dark brown and blacks are the least least desirable colors to add value for toning. If you want toning that adds value, look for the rainbow toners and the mixture of of reds and greens on Morgans bring the most value. The best recourse to determine value is to do a toning search on ebay, and then look at the sold listings. Stay away from raw toners until you know what you are buying.

I'll post a follow up after the sale is final. Don't want to jinks it beforehand. The feedback here was great. I got an offer quickly so was second guessing if I was pricing it right. Hearing you all say you'd pass made me quickly rethink listing it for auction on ebay. Could easily go for way less than what was offered or there is potential for another brown toning loving person out there but no guarantee. I would either need to commit to auction price or still pay a fee if the reserve wasn't met. Hopefully meeting up the guy on Friday about two '21s.

GL SilverSchmitt. I'm not a fan of toners in MS grades. For me, I think toning can hide defects (nick's and bag marks). Who knows, you may find a great interest in this coin. Just my opinion. Again, GL to you.

I agree with most of you. A toned coin I wouldn't give a second thought to. I like the color but wouldn't pay a premium for it. But some was willing to. I hadn't got around to figuring a price for any of the 8 1921 MS-64s I have. Let him know I hadn't figured that piece out and he offered $220. So that's the going rate y'all were wondering about.

The other 5 I have listed aren't toned and I'm guessing might fetch around $65-70ish. But $220.so yeah.

UGLY, IMHO. I would buy it cheap, crack it open and carefully dip it. It's not an expensive coin, definitely not worth protecting that ugly toning. But, that's only my opinion, I hate toning.
