I like the golf ball marker idea. If you are the wagering type, place a bet with someone that you can make the putt. Winner gets the coin. Make sure the wager is over the twenty cents you paid though.
Agree with above posts, these are common Morgan Dollars, and the value would be a bit above melt value. Hold on to them trove, and pass them on to the next generation if you have kids or grandkids. Also be sure to give them the story of your Papa passing them on to you.
I no longer use any change in commerce. I mostly use plastic anyway, What change I do get goes into a coffee can. Every couple years I give the cans to the nieces and nephews along with some paper wrappers and they go to town, I do however check all coins for errors, rarities etc. If eliminating the cent can reduce the budget I am all for it.
Agree with above comments, the coin(s) are suffering from hits by other coins. This more than likely happened at the mint when the coins were falling into the collection bins.
