They appear to be real Gold Indians, lovely looking coins.. The question I would ask is did you purchase them from a reputable dealer, or company? Can you get them certified/authenticated locally?

Both appear genuine and are considered common dates. Quarter-eagles always bring nice premiums to melt though. If the size is correct you know they're gold but the xrf will confirm. They look good to me. Grading Indians from images is a fool's errand but both have high AU details.

anyone think it would be worth sending to grading? I'm in australia so would be a bit of a mission posting.

Personally wouldn't send them for grading.

I would not. You have beautiful coins that are genuine U.S. Indian Head gold pieces and quite valuable as they sit raw. You'd have to pull Choice Mint Grades from a top TPG to make grading worthwhile. There are considered common dates. That's my 2 cents worth.

Also remember G$2.50 pieces (quarter-eagles) bring significant premiums to melt so don't let anyone tell you they are melt value pieces. They are not.
