Now that this set is complete, I am actually considering moving the coins minted in 1973 to my Birthyear Set, place the banknotes in their own album, and liquidate the rest of the coins.

This may sound weird, but I enjoy this set the least of all the coin sets I have. I have found that Dutch coins are rather bland compared to many other World coins.
It feesl bad you feel this way, but we have to collect what gives us joy. If they do not give you joy, make room for things that do!

Thanks jbuck, for the kind words.

What I am planning to do is move the 1973-dated coins to my Birthyear Set (as explained earlier), have the banknotes in their own separate album (in fact, I already ordered a banknote folder), and send my guldens from 1815-2001 to NGC for grading. I believe these coins are valuable enough to make that worthwhile.
The smaller denominations (cents, dimes, quarters) are so small I actually have a hard time seeing them and I will probably sell them or give them away.
I am not sure yet what to do with the Rijksdaalders and Commemoratives. I think I will keep them in coin flips for now and store them in a box.

Our interests and preferences change over time.

I admire collectors who can let go of something, divest and move on.

I agree with TDZiemia, if it's no longer fun pass it on. I've stopped on 2 for a while, the last 3 coins of the 7070 are just not appealing to me and then I stopped IHC for about a year. We don't really need to complete sets but our OCD wants us to.

One of my coin dealers (recently retired) told me to collect what you like. Don't worry about type sets or filling in holes. His collection blew my mind. He had 6 quarters that were on Sacagawea planchets, a 1944 steel cent, a proof large cent, a set of notes from a NJ bank all serial number 1 ($5,$10 and $20), he had a coin I didn't know existed. He had coins and notes that had no price on the catalogs. His personal collection was what it was, if it was unique he kept it. To him the 1909 S VDB, 1916 D, 1856 where just popular coins and he didn't want them.

True, people change.
But it can also be a case of being impatient and overly enthusiastic, then rush into something while not having is given proper consideration. Only to discover it is either too expensive or not appealing in the end.
