It has 1834 in the 4 o clock position on the reverse. I don't do foreign coins. Anyway thanks for having a 100 post comment contest.

The Alexander Column was designed by the French-born architect Auguste de Montferrand, built between 1830 and 1834 with Swiss-born architect Antonio Adamini, and unveiled on 30 August 1834 (St. Alexander of Constantinople's Day).

150 commemorative medals were placed below the foundation so my guess would be...

1830

If everything were so simple, I would not ask this question. Find more detailed information about this coin.

Little tip: "1834 is the date of the event"

This rouble medal was minted to celebrate the completion and opening of the Alexander Column in 1834, which is why it was dated 1834. A chest of medals was placed below the foundation when the monolith was placed on the pedestal in 1832, but these were coins commemorating the Patriotic War of 1812, not this particular medal. The rouble coin in question was actually first struck in 1836, and it continued to be issued over the next few years, all having the date 1834.

IM guessing they started minting them in 1835, and released them in 1836.

On December 7, 1835, Emperor Nicholas 1 issued a decree on the creation of a commemorative coin dedicated to the opening of the column in St. Petersburg. On February 7, 1836, in the notes of the Minister finasov Frantsevich Kankrin, there is a mention that this ruble was made, issued and presented to his Majesty.

The correct answer about the year of issue of the coin was given:Zurie and That coin dude.

But the first one was Zurie he and become the winner. Please contact me.

Thanks for the contest! It wasn't easy digging up the info, and I learned something about Russian history in the process!

Since I'm not really a foreign coin collector, I'm going to disclaim my prize and allow @That coin dude to receive it instead, if you don't mind. It looks like he collects foreign coins. Thanks again for the educational contest!

Yes of course. You can transfer a prize.
Thanks for participating. I wanted to make a contest which will force the participants to study in more detail the history of foreign coins.
