Quote: Ugh Barry I am really sorry they treated you that way. Wow, I had no idea that Fat Freddy's real name was Barry! Really sorry to hear about your experiences with Goldmart, Freddy. I can honestly say I have rarely received my merchandise from them in the promised/advertised time frame (leading me to suspect they are a bit on the disorganized side at best and selling merchandise they don't actually have in stock at worst), but I have always received my shipments and they have always been polite to me when I have called them. It's frustrating that they advertise 2-day turnaround and two day shipping when somebody pays by wire and yet it always seems to take at least a week to get my stuff. But I shop there for the low prices, to be honest, and not for their quick shipping. I don't know how I rank compared to some of their other customers, but I have purchased monster boxes from them as well as numerous 100-ounce silver bars, so maybe I get special treatment as a "big" customer when it comes to phone service? Regardless, there's simply no excuse to treat ANY customer the way you were treated.

Yeah ... I think my name (at least in Carson City NV) is "Public Enemy #1."
When I go to the trouble of: 1- Visiting my bank and grabbing a pile of cash; 2- Visiting BOA and depositing the cash into GM's account; 3- Going home, scanning an image of the deposit receipt and emailing that scanned image to Goldmart AND THEN phoning them to alert them to the order, the cash deposit and the email that's in their inbox; ... and then ... They proceed to treat me as if I'd sent them a personal check in the mail... That's when I start to get irritated by their arrogant "we couldn't care less" attitude.
The worst part of it all though was the way they packaged those Libertads. I suppose I should be thankful my coins didn't end up on the floor of some USPS office somewhere between Goldmart and me. My grandchildren would probably be retired before that kind of mess got straightened out.

Not to worry, Yup -- I've been called infinitely worse things than Barry in the course of my travels! On a Libertad-related note... This was the first time I ever saw a mint tube of Libertads, so that nasty old cardboard cylinder with one end taped mostly shut and the other crimped end but still about 90% open was a new experience for me. Until now, I've been accustomed to those nice neat US Mint, RCM and Austrian Mint tubes that ASEs, CSMs and Philharmonics are shipped in. The Libertads I got (1985, but still in unopened mint "tubes") were comical. The last half-dozen nearest the crimped end of the cardboard tube were dirty and the one at the end was just plain grimy. I felt like I should run the poor things through the dishwasher and the only reason I didn't is that I don't know which dishwasher detergent is best for silver bullion coins. Martha Stewart's out of the can these days, right? Maybe I'll email her website and ask for some help here...

A side note if you don't like the cardboard lib tubes, 20 of them fit perfectly in SAE tubes. I just got 2 tubes from Provident, opened one to see the coins putting those back in a SAE tube leaving the other sealed from the mint. I guess its me but I like the crappy cardboard tubes.

@tbk---These were all 1985's, so they went into RCM tubes (@ a unique 23 per tube). They're almost sticky and I'm still thinking about doing something to take at least some of the crud off of them. I think if I leave them as they are in the RCM tube for a period of years, they'll come out as a solid 23oz cylinder, looking like a mid-80's Mex version of that fancy new 6oz Cook Islands $50 laser-engraved cylinder "coin." That might actually be cool, because these are the old style with the edge-stamped lettering on them.

Oh yeah, I meant the newer coin not the 80's version. And I would def dip it if it were covered in crud, can't hurt a bullion coin IMO.

Yeah--The more I think about it, the more I think this batch is going through a short acetone bath. That stuff takes the paint off of ASEs, so it should take the gunk off of these.

What I find the most humorous of all, is that Yup assumed this was Barry's nightmare, lol....
Seems like Gold-mart ran him through the ringer to and then some if memory serves me right, as it rarely does lol....
I despise MOST big CORPORATIONS with a PASSION. Let it be known I wish most of them failure in the long run and if their is a God as I suspect there is, I will have my way in the end and all who runs them unjustly will answer for their many countless crimes, karma or whatever you wanna call it....
They will die like myself and the rest of us and all of their wealth they TIGHTLY stashed away while helping no one but themselves is gonna change that fact. And someone else will spend it all and that FACT makes me happy....
They all don't care about the human which pays their bills, just another aggravation....
That is why I will take my business to a Mom and Pop store (The people who built this country and made it great to begin with) and give them my business any day before I will the big corps of the world, but that is just me....

lol@silver
no thats not it lol. What happened was I was doing two things at once and in my brain, I was focused on BARRY because he started this thread.
In any case, I hate anyone who gets a hard time from the dealers. I despise how I know they snicker and jeer behind the scenes and play on every ones emotions. Its disgusting how they mark up and ramp up prices even on a sell offs, because it plays RIGHT into their hand.
Eventually, as has been discussed, things will revert. For now, the dealers are making sure they get the last gasps on the unknowing bag holders and months later, everything will come closer to actual spot, at least whats what I was told this week.

That's what I'm thinking as well right now. As long as silver was only dropping a little at a time, I felt it made a lot of sense to "buy the dips" and don't regret doing so. Now that we have had a major drop, however, the dealers either have nothing in stock or have raised their premiums so high the prices are actually higher than before the drop. "Backing up the truck" simply isn't an option right now. Instead, my strategy now is to wait and hope that spot prices stay low long enough for the premiums to drop back down and for dealers to have more stuff in stock. Again, I don't regret buying the dips on the way down, but I certainly think it's now time to exercise some patience. Fortunately, if prices do suddenly go back up I won't feel like I missed any sort of golden opportunity precisely because I did buy the dips (and, of course, because there currently aren't any golden opportunities around as far as I can see).

It's weird how this market has knocked prices around. When I bought those Libertads, they were the Online Buy DuJour @ $29.28/coin. Today they're long since gone but right now Goldmart will sell you a tube of 20 ASEs for $565.80 (to be hopefully delivered someday) and Provident will sell you a tube of 20 Fiji Takus (which they have in their stockroom) for $559.60! I had never envisioned the market making the Fiji Taku a competitively priced bullion coin.

Yeah, I actually just bought a single Fiji Taku from provident for my "foreign bullion" collection. I was going to buy a tube of 20, but not at $5+ per coin over spot.

I just sold a roll of 20 silver dollars on ebay (15 Peace and 5 Morgan) for 565 free ship and they were just basic junk common dates.... That is 28.50 a coin with silver setting at 23 and change.... All you that CLING to spot price have little idea what the PHYISICAL market bares, unless you are listing yourself or tracking auctions yourself.... That 565 tells me good rolls running low are still a tough to find thing and many will push them up over 28 per coin all day on ebay....
