Three more sets arrived by mail today, all the way from oversees! The first one up is the 1973 Proof Set from South Africa.   The coins are in pretty good condition, except for the 1 Rand coin. What do you think I should do to it, if anything? Maybe give it a soak in acetone? There seems to be some brown deposit (rust?) at 8 o'clock on the obverse. |

This time a set from Asia, a 1973 Proof Set from Nepal.   Note that there are some white spots ("milk spots"?) on some of the coins, which I hope to remove by soaking these coins in acetone overnight. If not, maybe VerdiCare will work? |

I am not sure I would go beyond acetone. You may want to post a new topic for the coins in question to attract more opinions.

Not much happened during the Holiday season, but my first two new purchases of 2023 are the 1973 British Virgin Islands proof set and the 1973 Panama proof set, both minted by the Franklin Mint.   |
