Hello! I'm hoping there's some experts in here that could give me any general information on this coin and its series. There isn't much information online, but from what I could gather, these coins are very rare to find well struck with visible legends, bust, and shield. I'd like to know more about the assayer "FP", its involvement in the Mexican War Of Independence, why these were so crudely produced, how they were produced, and if this example is particularly rare or valuable. thanks! Cool coin. Mexico War of Independence collecting is gaining momentum. Easy 50 with scratches on the bust.

That is a really outstanding example. I looked for a nice Zacatecas 1813-1821 Royal about a year ago and the earliest I found that I liked was an 1816. Everything earlier than that was heavily worn.
Based on scarcity your coin should be worth well over $1000, but I'm not sure it would sell for that.To my mind it's worth as much as US draped bust dollar in equal condition, $2000-3000 range.

Yeah I heard quality control at the Zacatecas Mint was terrible until 1816. I sent this coin to Stacks Bowers to be auctioned in the January 2025 NYC International Auction. The Director of Consignments said it was an incredible example for the series, so keep in eye out in January if anyone is interested in this coin. It was hard for me to let it go. A VG10 Example sold there last year for over $2000! I'm excited to see how it goes. Thanks for all the information.

My comment applied to ebay listing sweegus. You're doing it the right way, and the sky's the limit. Good luck!

I think Stack's is the right place for this coin. It's a super nice example, I have one that is very weakly struck, looks kind of like a slug with the outer legends visible. Yours would have sold on ebay but probably wouldn't have gotten the best price.
