I need to rant.

In the last few years more and more sellers of coins, paper money and other collectables are using ebay's wretched international shipping program.

It is sheer robbery. And what I can't understand is how many sellers don't even seem to know. So they claim.

I also can't understand why more buyers aren't angry about it.

A seller I have been buying from for years has just placed his latest listings under ebay International Shipping. His normal shipping rate is $3 which more than covers the actual cost of postage and packaging. It's now $15.50 through this program. It's outrageous.

I've seen listings where over $20 is being charged to post a single banknote or empty matchbook cover that's listed for $2. Who in their right mind is going to pay this (unless the seller has listed a real bargain)?

Indeed I've bought a total of three things this year through this ebay scam only because the selling price versus value was low enough to make it worthwhile. One of these three things was lost. It took around 5 weeks to get a refund from ebay.

Compare with the regular international post which I usually only have to pay around $3 to $8 with most sellers. Only 3 things have been lost in the last 6 years out of several hundred orders.

At this rate it will soon become a waste of time using ebay because I am not going to be ripped off like this.

I must admit that I am dumb in this regard.
For me at least,- the more I think about it, it is wise to be dumb.

I only examine and buy coins face to face, using cash only.

No fuss, no worries, no waiting for coins to be shipped, no extra fees.
Never been scammed.
