Hi everyone, I've come across some information online that does not necessarily match up with what I'm seeing in the community forum. I have a few half dollars from Canada and saw this information online. Just wondering what the pros think. Of course, I am a novice and trying to get as much learning in, so all you feedback is very welcomed! https://robpaulsenlive.com/rare-canadian-coins/Here is my 1974. What do the experts think? Thanks in advance for your help! Here are some more pictures: Edited by Jess1234 04/01/2023 2:17 pm

Images are too soft and dark to see surface details clearly.

There are a lot better resources than the reference you are referring to. Poorly written and contains numerous errors . A 1974 Canada 50 cents is easily obtainable in nice mint state condition for around 2 to 5 dollars . One with light circulation is worth face value . If you are just starting as a novice collector , best advice buy a Charlton STANDARD CATALOGUE OF CANADIAN COINS. It does not even have to be a current edition . The information contained is invaluable.

To me the fields indicate an AU coin.

I agree with Pacificoin. That page is not a good source of info.
Get a Charlton's.

I also agree with Pacificoin ... the reference in your link is not a good reference and is very misleading; don't use it.
Especially this quote from your reference "When in their best mint state, most Canadian coins have a high market value. It's because of their rarity or because the Mints struck them on quality planchets" which is not true in any fashion and is patently misleading. Don't believe his write-ups.
The Obverse is very weakly struck and not crisp, plus the dings. It's an AU coin worth at not much more than face value. Find a nicer one

Wow, that resource is awful. #14 is a "50 Cents 1974 Newfoundland" and says "When in their best state, they have a price of around 58,600 USD", and shows a picture of a 1974 Canada 50 cents. Is this giving you the idea that yours is valuable? Newfoundland coins ended in 1947. They must be talking about the 1874 50c in SP. 1874, not 1974.

The new "blue" pics aren't very helpful.

Newfoundland stopped minting 50c coins in 1919. In 1949 they joined Canada Canada still mint 50 cent coins but the are not released into circulation As per coinsandcanada.com the 1974 in PL67 3rd party graded has a (retail) value of $56.40 (cdn)
