I am just starting out. I have a Whites Coin Master metal detector and was told that I needed handheld pinpoint detector. I don't want the best and I don't want the worst. I'm looking for middle of the road cost wise. Thanx in advance.

a pinpointer is always a good tool to have in your arsenal but it's not exactly essential...you can detect and make finds just fine without one
the big advantage with a pinpointer is the time and energy you'll save, recovery time can sometimes be cut down but it wins the day with small finds lost in the dirt or hole.
A good name brand can be had for under a hundred$, there are many off brand knockoffs out there for much less and you get what you pay for with some
