Hello all,

I ahve found these items metal detecting and wanted to know more about the golden looking coin I have found.

Is it made of gold? Whats it worth? Really anything you could tell me about it would help me out.

Thank you!

You found a Jeton of Nuremburg Germany made by one of the family "Krawinckel" whose fathers and sons engraved these items since the mid 1500s. From the French "jeter" meaning to throw or to cast away these cent sized Jetons helped innumerate folks who did not know basic math to count by a mechanical process in Roman numerals. They would have been issued in large sets of identical pieces and used in counting houses. Yours seems to have some nonsense characters typically found on emissions by apprentice engravers.
