I have been offered this coin, but I spot several issues. As I am not an expert, I would like to know your thoughts concerning validity. Sorry for the photo quality, as I do not have the coin in hand and just the photo as sent to me (which is actually better than a photo I would have taken. argh).

Here is what I see:
On the reverse, the mint marks should show MO FM but I see MO PR (I can find no example as such). MO also does not appear to be in the proper orientation. Eti'n'd seems to have a problem with the N. Also, the 3 stars in the middle of the crest are not properly positioned. On obverse, the date appears as '178 5' and DEI is not properly spaced.

Am I making a mountain out of a molehill?

...this coin was struck in Potosi, (Bolivia), not Mexico ... "P.R." is the proper assayer mark ... note the Potosi mint mark, 8:00 position, pillars & sheild side, between ' REX ' & ' P.R. ' ... see attached diagram-Potosi mint mark) ... these Potosi coins from this era can be a bit cruder, but contemporary counterfeits did occur ... ask for the weight of the coin (should be 6.7688 grams, but can vary slightly ... counterfeits were usually lighter, & made with debased silver). correct silver purity should be .903. ... coins of this era, Potosi, were also usually weakly struck ... hard to say for certain from the pics, but this one looks OK, depending on the price ...

Assay marks. I learned something new. I just knew that 'MO' didn't look right....I just didn't know why. When received, I will weigh and let you know. Thanks so much for helping me to learn. Eventually I may even know what I'm talking about! as always, posters get excellent answer through this forum.
