GregAlex Pillar of the Community United States 759 Posts	Posted 04/08/2024 9:32 pm Department stores have been around for nearly 200 years, but until the 20th century they were generally local or regional enterprises. JC Penney was one of the first to become a national chain. There are a few like Gimbel's that were based in NYC, but achieved national name recognition. Many of these stocks are not familiar names to me, but I'm curious to know if others shopped at any of them. And more to come! Report this Post to the Staff

I've heard of Lerner's as well (operates as New York & Co. still). While I'm not familiar with interstate directly I had heard of it. Probably because they started Toys R Us.
