I already posted the below coin in the "One Year Only" thread, but another user (jbuck) has encouraged my idea to start a topic for Edward VIII coins. Actual circulation coins only, please -- no patterns, fantasy coins, etc. Let's see how many different ones there actually are!

British West Africa issued coins with King Edward VIII's titles in 1936.

Penny minted by the Heaton Mint:

Penny minted by the Kings Norton Mint:

Halfpenny:

One-tenth-of-a-penny:

Apparently the tenth-of-a-penny coins were popular with building contractors, as it was cheaper to use them as washers than to buy a bag of washers from a builder's merchant!

Drat! I have 1935 New Zealand Half Crown with George V, and a 1937 Australia Crown with George VI. But alas, Edward VIII is not to be found. This omission must be resolved!

I didn't have a picture on file, so had to go take one. So retook both sides.

And that's pretty much it, as far as circulating coins of Edward VIII are concerned. Apart from mintmark varieties on the African coins, the only ones not mentioned so far are the Fiji penny, the scarce West Africa / East Africa mule, and the Indian State coinages of Kutch and Jodhpur (which name the king in Arabic script, rather than English script, so don't usually make the list).

None of these circulating Edward VIII coins have the portrait. As I'm sure you're all aware, Edward VIII disagreed with the Mint's suggestion for the portrait, as he didn't want to follow the venerable new-monarchs-must-change-direction-on-the-coinage tradition, because if he faced right, nobody would see the fashionable parting of his hair. By the time the argument was resolved, the King had already decided to abdicate, so no portrait coins were issued and none were struck apart from a few very very scarce patterns.
