No idea where or when this comes from. It was found in a old shoe with misc US coins dated between 1936 and 1944.

Thanks!

Welcome!
The name on the coin is CAROLVS. The coins of Charlemagne have been commonly given the compliment of reproduction in the modern era. Can we see the other side?

It appears to be copper; genuine deniers of Charlemagne are supposed to be silver.

Other than that, all I can add is that I don't think it's a Westair reproduction; theirs are somewhat more crude-looking. Example on numista.

Indeed Sap, here is a drawing from a book about Carolus coins.
All these coins are more crude than the one above.
This (Original) one wast hammered in Milan. The obverse looks a bit like the one above.
If possible I would like to see the other side

Thank you for the replies. Please let me know if this opposite side photo helps at all. I haven't the slightest idea if it is real or a replica, but I do not believe it could be any more recent than mid 1940's. If anyone has suggestions on where else I could post these photos, or who else I could ask please post. All feedback is greatly appreciated!
