I'm currently looking at a lot of over 500 Buffalo nickels. There's 7 old rolls and the rest loose. Out of the loose ones, what I can see dates in the 1920s with most in the 1930s There appears to be some nice nickels in the lot but the seller also says about 10% don't have readable dates. My problem is I don't know what an appropriate bid for the lot would be. |

I would assume most are common dates from the 30's, but should be fun looking for varieties. Circulated, dated Buffalos were recently sold on ebay for about $20 to $30 per roll, if that helps. |

I'm with Zurie. The dates I can see are in the '30s. They've probably been picked through. Hopefully not too many dateless in the rolls.

$250 would be the highest I'd bid on that lot.

Thanks for the info. Yes I would guess they are common dates but hoping there maybe some older ones in the rolls in decent condition. About $20 a roll would be my limit. I know some people go crazy for them so they could sell much higher.

Wholesale "buy" prices are as follows: full dates = 40 cents each; part dates = 18 cents each; no dates = 13 cents each and culls = 12 cents each.
Amazingly, I see no mintmarked coins in the picture. That tells you a lot.
Bid accordingly based on what you can see and the risks you are willing to take. With lots like this you never can tell what you are gonna get.

What I see is a great opportunity to learn about a specific coin ... if a guy could get these at a reasonable price, one could certainly look at every coin, dive into the varieties, key dates etc. By the end of that process, one would have quite a good handle on Buffalo nickels. |

Without a doubt picked thru, personally I don't see the appeal. To each their own. Having said that, 40 cents a piece is the most I would pay, face value for no dates.
