Hi. I finally got my copy last week of Robert Gurney's (@swamperbob) Counterfeit Portrait Eight Reales : The Un-real Reales.

I skip-browse and skip-read some portions and subject. It's a very comprehensive book, from backgrounders and specific references in coverage on the subject (Fake portrait 8R of Carlos III, Carlos IV and Ferdinand VII). Very thick book.
For those who have read or browse the book, I would need some advise. I had corresponded with Bob a few months ago, but I believe he is busy IRL.
I'm from Southeast Asia and collected Spanish Colonial 8R Pillars and Portraits, a number of which were bought via
ebay. Decades before, I've been clueless about numismatic fakes and counterfeits. Way back when I joined this forum, I was exposed to the reality. Swamperbob was kind enough to give me heads up and reviewed some of my collection. He found a number of my Pillars that were obvious and not-so-obvious fakes. Discouraged, this made me stop collecting these types when I was in quandary on how to meticulously inspect a specimen locally.
I want to move on and start collecting again with my minimal knowledge. I would ask for your advises on which part of the book would be much relevant to jump start me on Pillars and Portraits, considering my location. Everytime I see doubling legends, uneven surface or "bloated letters", I immediately suspect it to be fake or good cast.
Hoping to learn more with a tool in hand.
