Yes, thats exciting. Good luck and if noone can disregard it from testing I'd send it off to ANACS as mentioned as here we can generally just give opinions and help save some money for some people that clearly don't have what they think they have.

Just got back from Lansing. That X-ray machine is very cool'

The coin checked out good &. Spot on for. 40% half..
The owner of the Lansing shop say it looks good, he has seen several come
from Michigan.

Now will have to send to NGC. That will take some time.

Thanks for the welcome back CelticKnot.

From what I hear NGC is pretty slow grading coins like this.
If so, it might me months before finding out how this coin will
grade.

One of my local dealers is going to the central states coin
show next week. He think he can drop the coin off there.

I will check into that more.

NGC is a good option, the current estimated turnaround times are here depending on the tier you use. Varities and erorrs add 5 days approx it says. https://www.ngccoin.com/submit/services-fees/ngc/

Anacs can also certify that coin as mentioned and likely more quickly. Generally wont cause issue with value here since its an error coin which just requires certification in this case. Either way congrats on the find and post when you get it back.

Machine20 and Jbuck .thanks for the reply.

The interesting story of this coin, the man who found this
coin was my next door neighbor, in Michigan, when I was young. He must
have pulled it from circulation in the late 70's or early 80's.
He had a small box of typical coins some people pull out and saved.
Coins like wheat cents, SBA's and half dollars. In the 90's
he retired and moved to Florida. In 2004 I move to Florida
and found out he lived a few miles from my home there.

When he passed away, I helped his daughter clean out his house.
she took that box of coins to her home in Maryland. Recently
She called me, she was looking through that box of coins and
thought this one looked different. She called me, we talk about it
and she sent it to me.

Neither the father or daughter collect coins.

Several local coin dealers and the XRF machine believe
this is a wrong planchet 1977D Kennedy half dollar.

Tomorrow I will take the coin to the dealer that will either
send it to NGC or take it next weekend to central states
coins show and drop it off there.

Outstanding!

So it has been cleaned. Not a problem considering it is still silver.
