I have a few (8 or 9) Morgan dollars that I picked up in the 1980's and they were all listed as XF by the seller at that time. Since I want to pursue some other coins, I'm thinking I might actually sell these ones. I'm plotting my selling strategy for ebay and wanted to bounce an idea off the group and see what you thought.

I could sell each of them individually. But some of the coins could easily be bundled together. For example, I have an 1878 8TF, an 1878 7/8TF, and an 1878 7 TF. Do you think I'd be better off selling them as one lot of three coins or selling each coin individually? Which option would be more attractive to a buyer?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Get your 200 bucks all at once and be done with it, not worth the time for the value

Morgans are desirable, but at XF for common ones, not so much. Probably one lot, or 2-3 smaller lots. If you want your money fast, just auction them, and you get the market value. You could probably do a little better as a BIN, but you'll have to wait a while for the sale.
Rest in Peace

Have you attributed the 1878's? There are some very desirable VAMs for the three reverse types you've listed.

I have not looked into the VAMs yet. I should probably do that before I sell them. Good point.

BTW, if I did find any good VAMs, I'd probably sell them individually.

I wish you wouldn't do that! I have on numerous occasions purchased unattributed Morgan dollars on the bay for under $50 and sold them later for mid-four figures! If you do all the work ahead of time, that would cut into my profit and increase yours!

You remind me of my brother who would trade me his nickels for my dimes because nickels are bigger and worth more. I'm kinda surprised I got into coin collecting with all that underlying trauma.

O.k., a follow-up question for you Morgan collectors out there. How deep do I dig in the VAMs? If I go through some of the top 100 and hot 40 lists and don't find anything, is it safe to say that I probably just have a general run-of-the-mill Morgan?

Rest in Peace

Absolutely not. A good example of a non-list VAM that is rare and worth a premium is VAM-14.15.

C_Squirrel, Why not just post good photos of your Morgans to the VAM Section and let us help you out. We love doing that!

Probably because I am oblivious to the obvious sometimes.

Thanks Seated Nut. I will take you up on that offer.
