While I was in Iraq I was making payments to the locals for damages caused by the military. It also entailed creating jobs for the locals ( supposedly so they wouldn't join the Taliban. ya right! ) Well... the unit I was attached to kind of messed up, they would do what they called random deterrent fire missions. They would pick an area and send mortars in. Well un-beknow to then a Bedouin family had moved into the area they were targeting . The end result you can guess . It wound up costing the us Military a good chunk. woops maybe I wasn't suspose to say that

My son (at the time a company commander in the 4th ID) told similar stories.

Nothing surprises me about what either of you said but it's mind-bending regardless. How does a stack of cash (albeit a very large one) bring back loved ones? (rhetorical)
Please don't take this the wrong way but if ever I needed a visual of my tax dollars... THAT'S IT.

That's nothing. You ever see the movie Green Zone? He hands him a back pack with 1 million to pay off an Iraqi. Stuff like that happens, and not just in the movies.

To answer your question, I've seen $100,000+ USD in person multiple times.

Fascinating recollection, moose59, and interesting to see $100,000 in cash! At the Millennium Dome in London in the year 2000, one of the exhibits was a million pounds in fifty-pound notes, exhibited in a clear plastic arch that you could walk underneath!

I saw the old $1 million display at Binion's in Las Vegas many times - it was made up of 100 $10,000 notes. I believe it was taken down some 20 years ago.

That money was on my cot in Iraq. I carried it around with me in my back pack.

There was a display at the Baltimore ANA Show where the BEP had uncut 12 Subject Sheets of $100,000 notes, they had it locked in a standard Allstate display case. But I think they should have used Seran wrap to ward off all the drool and *ahem* other bodily fluids

Many years ago I worked for a company that held cash from the reserve bank before it reaches the trading banks. I regularly literally crawled & walked over millions of dollars in change and crated banknotes.
