So if cash disappeared (official government cash, IMO there will always be hard money, always) what would you miss about it? Let's get a list going. It can be sarcastic, ironic, sardonic, or just funny if you want.
1. No more short bargaining. "$15? Well all I've got is $12. See?"
2. Hot dogs and other street food. Hard workers get wiped out for not accepting cards.
3. No more YouTube videos of homies showing us their wads of cash after a night of "hard" work.
4. Short lines (queues) at the supermarket. I will truly miss this one.
5. Prostitution will have to be legalized.
6. Bank robberies will now include a nerd or two.
7. If you run out of paper, have no cell phone around, can write down important names and numbers on a $1 bill.
8. Overcombs (at least in Canadian banknotes).

9. The smell of currency. Digital cash only smells if your computer overheats and melts.

13. Would miss the sound of the jingling of coins in pockets and the clinking and clanking of coins at a casino.

I fold - who can contend with FREEDOM?
Personally, I wouldn't miss the smell of cash: cash smells nasty. Try digging through a box of coins and see how dirty your hands get...

15. It would be hard to get coin rolls at the bank, not being able to exchange cash.

16. Toss a dozen, a hundred, 10,000 pennies to obtain statistical data for probability research would have to be replaced by a computer program with much less accuracy.

18. Pitching pennies replaced by a virtual computer program? No fun in that.

They'd have to reinvent the fountain with swipe cards that you load up and wish your credits away.
20. Small labor would disappear overnight. People who rely on cash tips will just quit their jobs. Valet drivers, servers, all sorts of service labor (busboy, doorman) would have no way to absorb the loose change.
21. The homeless would be forced to get a bank account.
22. No more paying your taxes in just coins.
23. Variety searching would be dead.

Quote: People who rely on cash tips will just quit their jobs. In many places, the tip is included in the receipt... one of the first things we learned in French class was how to ask if the tip was included or not. Hong Kong uses the Oyster Card system for most small transactions, and while coins are still used, the economy there has not collapsed due to a lack of wait-staff.

Yes, but also the ones who rely on not paying taxes on their tips will find new ways to get untraceable money.
I'm aware of charge cards that exist in the UK.
24. Giving to small charities would be awkward and time-consuming.
