Beat-Up Draped Bust Large Cent - What Can I Do To Clean/Conserve It?

A little update: I tried acetone, xyelene and the ice trick. I was able to get a tiny bit (read 0.1%) of the green stuff off using the latter each time, but nothing more.

It was nevertheless a fun process!

Hello, I recently acquired this 1805 large cent. It's in quite a poor shape, but I wonder if anything could be done to make the date more legible or to clean/conserve the coin. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have olive oil, acetone, xyelene, and verdi-care at my disposal.

@BCTokens, I also noticed that it used the Netherlands design rather than the East Indies version. I wonder if both circulated in Indonesia at the time?

Hello, I recently acquired this piece as a part of the lot. Obviously it is trying to imitate a Dutch 1/4 Gulden with a bust of Wilhelmina, but the text is all gibberish and I am unable to find any information on Google. Let me know if you have any ideas

Bought this coin the other day. The date looks like a 1885 and I am certain there are four dotes on the obverse. Are there any other details I should be looking for to confirm?

Hi everyone,

What grade would you give to this coin? I am thinking VF with the wear on the crown, but there seems to be a good amount of lustre remaining...

Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased this dollar with a strange countermark on it... It looks like the Cyrllic letter 'zhe', but does anyone know its significance or origins?

Hi everyone,

I was recently able to save this coin from the scrap bin. Unfortunately the date has now been worn off, but I hope you enjoy!

Hello,

I recently inherited a collection of coins. Unfortunately, the humidity of Southern China was not so kind and left them in a rather green state. Is there anything I can do to at least save a few of them? Most are copper or nickel, with a few brass pieces as well.

Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone,

I was flipping my V nickels today when I noticed that one of them did not fit in a regular nickel flip... instead I had to use one for quarters. At first, I thought I was crazy, but using a ruler it seems that the diameter is about 4mm larger than a regular nickel.

I tried researching for varieties online, but could not find anything. Any help would be appreciated!

Hey everyone,

Here is a coin that I saved from the scrap bucket about a year ago. It has since been sold off, but every now and then I can still feel the excitement of when I first found the coin. Hope you enjoy

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share this 1859 cent that my friend dug this out of the ground during our metal detecting hunt yesterday. Any opinions on the grade/variety?
