I stumbled across 12 rolls of 1968-d UNC for 1.50$ a roll and I was on my 11th roll of looking for this RPM. Up to this point I hadn't seen any RPM and BAM there were two these almost back to back. For selling purposes could I ask ms-63 prices?
Very confused on how it would have been cleaned it was under ground for the past 100 years and I dug it up amd it looked like that . A lot of that would come off without and water but I don't want to rub it
I found this metal detecting and did not clean it yet. was hoping for some suggestions on how to clean it safely. What you see is how it came out the ground!

Quote: Here you go, gros. One of the many changes from small to large date was to try and eliminate the "chipping" issue they were having on the date, but as you can see on both your and my example, it did not work. They thought by changing the size and thinning the date on the large date, it would help but it did not. What you are seeing, as I have already stated, is due to chipping.
I guess I was referring to the the zero in the date as much as anything. There is layering on the inside and outside and the numbers and letters of liberty are thicker than usual. It's from an original roll and most of the coins have full memorial steps making me think it's a newer die. My first thought was MD. I know other members have seen these . It's the reason I posted
Quote: If you pull up doubleddie.com, they were obviously delisted because of this, the listings are no longer there. coppercoins has not delisted them yet but more than likely will, with time.
Coppercoins is where I found them so that answers that question.
Not absolutely sure it's DD0 #4 . Mintmark positioning for # 2,3 4 are very similar? Doesn't seem to be dot under R of LIBERTY. There are concentric lines under VDB and there is a Die dot in C of Cent but I don't see two dots clearly. What's the verdict?
John, that's the thing, I have no clue. I went through the whole list on coppercoins and didn't find anything like it? I guess I was posting to see if anyone thought it could be a S to the north?
I first thought it was just a die issue (still could be) but I have 8 of these and it sure looks like a partial "S" to the north. Sure would like some better eyes looking at it? Maybe silvio could look at it?
Quote: No split serif on this such as is easily visible on the two known RPMs for this date/mint. I wonder if it isn't MD on this coin. @gros, are there any other areas with similar doubling on the reverse?
I really thought it was RPM #2. I have never looked for RPM'S on circulated coins and was unsure of how the circulation would come into play? I am just now getting better at uncirculated Lincoln RPM'S. There are no markers to identify on variety vista that I could match up, so I figured that comes into play with coins dug out the ground . I knew some members on the forum would know.
