You would think that italians are the luckiest one, but we envy those other countries where you can go witha metal detector looking for coins or ancient stuff, because whatever we find (and even searching for something of an archaeological value, in some cases, is illegal) belongs to the state, and you have to give it to an authority, and you could even be in some trouble. So I'm so envious, I would love to go and search with a MD, I hope they will change this outdated law (it was introduced back in the early 1900).
And even collectors who buy ancient coins, or other antiques, from legal sources may be charged or tried and see their collection confiscated, and to get it back, after proving you own it legally, you are likely to have to pay a deposit.

This is a book about medieval French coins (it's in french) this site has a lot of free books and catalogues from collections, museums or auctions (they are old, could be outdated, and are in many languages like french, spanish, german, italian...) But I hope it can be useful to someone.

Hello there, I'm new. I joined this forum because I was struggling so much to identify this coin. It is a denier tournois, but the legend is different from every single Tournois I have ever seen. I actually posted this coin to an italian forum (since I am italian) two weeks ago without even getting a reply. Size: 17mm / 0.67 inches. Copper / Billon
weight unknown. legends are (could be wrong, my eyes are pretty good but I could have misread some letters.)
OBV: " + S(maybe) TV..(D maybe) S (O maybe) .... D" castle tournois
REV: "+ST...T (E maybe)AT..CI" Cross Patče
thank you all for your help.
