My gift has arrived last weekend so yesterday I finally got it in hands and was able to take some pics as well! Looks like I was added to the good boy's list - Santa was really generous! Got a 2021 P&D US Mint Set and S-minted Bicentenial Ike in a great shape with beautiful toning wich immediately went into my 7070 ;)

Appreciate a hand written note! Could hardly remember when was the last time I received one.

Happy New Year to all fellow collectors! Brief update on my gift - it has arrived to Lithuania mid December and still stuck in custom clearance. No worries, sooner or later it will make it ;) Previous mail from US spent there 4 weeks and it wasn't Christmas time, so I expect maybe in January I'll post the update. Please feel free to remove me from the list and huge thanks to Secret Santa!

The mail from Russia finally arrived after almost one month of custom clearance. Many thanks for Armenia coins - I didn't have any so it's a great addition to my collection!

Included two commemorative 100 dram coins from the 199x plus nice set of six 200 dram coins dedicated to Wild Trees of Armenia dated 2014. Not sure if the picture shows the coins properly but all of the coins are in AU/UNC with mint luster!
Thanks again Santa! |

Some updates for my gift: sender has emailed me the tracking number so I was able to locate the mail and fill the online import declaration form. Hope it works since I don't know what's inside :) so filled it up with some random yet reasonable figures. |

Quote: Today I received my Secret Santa gift - by far the most amazing gift I have ever received!
Santa would like to apologize for Rudolph being so slow this year and also for USPS elves being too busy delivering the gifts for all other good boys and girls across US.
Santa let the gift go on 5th of December and it has left Lithuania on December 8th. The big bag with mails was delivered to USPS Chicago sorting facility in three days, spent there almost two weeks to be forwarded to LA sorting were it was finally opened, approved by customs control and the mails were checked in on Christmas bringing the hope back :)
Quote: . Your Secret Santa will love to hear that.
Santa is happy! :) Looking after the gift travelling across all 50 States was thrilling but the show took a waaay too long.
Happy New Year everyone!

Quote: You have very strange requirements for parcels.
Well this is the reality. To get more into details - when posts receives something from abroad, they ask you to fill a simple online form and attach proof of purchase. If the seller is one of the bigger marketplaces like eBay or Ali, already registered as VAT payer anywhere in EU - no VAT. Otherwise, VAT and import taxes - normally zero - would be added plus Post of Lithuania services as your custom agent (8 EUR). They will send you a link to pay - two clicks and parcel is ready to delivery.
If you were not able to provide proof of purchase - well than it's beteween you and customs. So you should either pick a custom broker/agent to fill in the declaration - $20 on average, up to 5 lines or do it yourself online via custom information system. But to get access to the system, you should be registered as importer getting a standart EORI code. That's how it works.
Unfortunately, can't provide any information about Germany or any other country.
Regarding shipping to Russia - I double checked. I can't order a label to Russia for anything except a letter, 0 to 20 grams. The most recent information from the post comes from March, 2023 - "Shipping of parcels to Russia temporary suspended". Here's the link: https://www.xn--lietuvospatas-kuc.l...mas-i-rusija
Maybe I don't know some workarounds. |

Would be happy to jump in and add another country to the list.
Can ship everywhere except Russia, Belorussia, Afganistan, East Timor and Syria due to obvious reasons and unexpectedly Bhutan and St. Helena island - what's wrong with these anyway?
But I could maybe arrange forwarding to Russia with a little help of my friends outside Europe. Will need to check but think it's possible to help Santa visit fellow Slerk as well as all other well-behaved boys and girls.
My problem is that I reside in Lithuania, EU so due to stupid European regulations literally all of the mails coming from abroad of EU, also including gifts from private persons or even relatives are the subject to custom declaration. So, my best option to receive something from abroad would be either again use address of some of my friends in Ukraine or Azerbaijan or to ask the Santa to send me an invoice :). Otherwise, I won't be able to use online custom declaration service since attaching a proof or purchase and copy of bank transaction report is mandatory :)
Please let me know would you consider onboarding me despite of all off additional requirements :)
Edited: grammar issues

Quote: Cast Chinese Coins by David Hartill Second edition page 406
Got it! Thanks a lot!
Found it on numista already but thanks for going extra mile for me!
Will try to check with Hartill book but what makes me concern a bit is the weight. Numista says it should be way more heavier, like 7.5 gr. The coind doesn't look circulated enough to loose almost 10% of it's weight - poorly looking and corroded for sure but not so circulated.

Quote: Agree with airgem, it looks like its had some sort of clean. I don't think it will grade straight.
Since it has nice eye appeal and considering the number of forgeries on the market I would rather get it slabbed as a proof it's genuine. Or at least recognized as genuine - we all know that NGC and PCGS guys used to mess up with non-US coins previously.
Dear All - since the were only few reverse dies used - or maybe even only one - there couldn't be any variations worth mentioning, right?
Multiple small die cracks are rather common for these coins for obvious reason and probably doesn't give any premium.
A bit of offtopis - Since 1922 reverse dies were employed again to strike more coins instead of deteriorated 1923s maybe there were some mules found in the wild, like 1922 reverse and 1923 obverse if the were any differences on the portrait?

Quote: I read where only one Reverse Die was used and it deteriorated early in the mintage so no point in replacing Obv
So the die was poorly made and had deterioted instantly? There are different estimations of exact mintage but mostly going around 15k pcs.
Quote: It is well worth the effort to look at all of those Google references. I obviously underestimated the fake-makers. My initial idea was to study the final 3 since idea of making 3 out of 8 was pretty obvious. But I didn't expect there might be also 1933 or literally any last figure attempetd to be fixed :)
Thanks a lot!
How in the world I would tag the right user? Quotes were pretty easy to master with general HTML code but repliyng to exact person still is a kind of mystery to me :)

Greetings to all fellow collectors. Recently I acquired a part of old collection of different coins, mostly German but it also contained a descent amount of world coins including some Aussie pieces. So I worked through them and have learned that most of these being quite common coins from 1917 to late sixties but one of the half pennies appears to be 1923. I've learned that it's a key date worth much more than the entire collection I've got so since it's a too good to be true story I'm asking for help.
Weight and diameter are in range - 5.67 approx and 25.5 mm, coin has descent brown to purple toning similar to other common coins from the same haul.
I don't see any obvious evidences for it's being fake but maybe because I don't know were to look? :) So I'm here to ask Australian collectors to take a look and share your opinion. Hope the pictures are good enough.

Better picture of both sides of Russian copper coins might be helpful. Big 2 kopecks coin 1798(?) looks good, I would say $10. USSR rouble in bottom right might be interesting but we need to see the date. My guess it's 1964 :) but any other date would be much better. 15 kopecks with shield (below 1926 Drachma coin) also might be key or semi key date. Anyway - enjoy your collection, there is so much fun in learning! |

Not an expert in legal issues both in US or Germany but old type Third Reich 5 reichsmark big silver coins doesn't have any swastika. Obverse design was changed in 1936 adding Nazi eagle, coins issued in 1935 and 1936 had an old Weimar type eagle. Maybe it could be a 100% legal option?

Would be curious to know also size and weight. Seeing the rim might be also helpful. Both sides looks legit to me - as gxseries already explained it's probably a restrike on 2 kopeks of Elisabeth cause originally on 4 kopecks of Peter the III high relief depicting the land under the dragon would be visible. Also on later restrike dated 1763 obverse would be fixed as well replacing denomination and "drums" with monogram of the empress Catherine II and new date. |

It's a bit tricky to find exact mintage for specific die but according to Fedorin's catalogue as well as Adrianov "half dot" or die type 2 is quite common for roubles minted in 1921, maybe just a bit less common than die#1 - full dot. Catalogue value for half dot is like 20% more. For the year 1922 half dot with ΑΓ rim lettering is quite rare so adds significant premium. Though half dot variation is well known among collectors I would rather hunt for dye#3 (Fedorin#3) - full dot but comma between "STRAN" and "SOEDINIAYTES" has round shape and positioned right at the middle - see pictures.
 Round comma
 Normal comma
Hope it helps. Edited: Fixed Cyrillic text |
