Quote: Imagine having a pair of matching serial numbers and showing them to a civilian (non collector) and telling them that they're error notes. They'd probably scrutinize them for a minute and ask, "Where's the error ?"
You'd say, "They have the same serial number." They'd reply, "I've seen notes with the same serial number before and they weren't errors." You'd say, "But these are the same series. That's not supposed to happen." They'd say, "Sounds like a clerical error to me."
And they'd be right
Both PMG and PCGS disagree, and call them a production error. No different than a blank copper planchet being stamped at the mint with Jefferson nickle dies. |

Alas, they are not mine. I run Project 2013B (2013b.com), and sometimes the people that get a match don't know much at all about grading and selling at auctions, so I do it for them. |

Wondering if anyone has experience in this and what to expect regarding clearing customes and particularly if the value of the item(s) goes past the $800 personal duty free amount? These would be PMG graded bills by the way.
So far I have figured out the HS code is DIFFERENT than for coins and is 49070030, but not clear answer yet on what the receiver in the US would expect to pay in terms of duties or tarrifs.

Regarding " I think the american dollar has a lot to gain by adding at least one denomination above $100", I really do not see how this can be. The $100 bill is probably the most counterfeited bill in the world; you can even buy some on Ali Express. The majority of money is in the form of digits on a screen anyway. In the grand scheme of things the American dollar is going to lose it's reserve currency status sooner than later; the weaponization of it was a HUGE mistake.
No one is going to buy groceries with a $200 bill. Or even $100. Why would I miss out on getting 3% cash back on my Credit card? If I were some cash-only zealot, I would much rather misplace or lose a single $20 bill in a stack of 10, then lose a single $200 bill.

Hello all. Just wondering if anyone in Canada has had a banknote graded by PMG (or any grading company) where they had to ship their bill to the US and have them ship it back, and what (if any) duties or GST had to be paid.
Technically the banknote was always your property, so would I end up paying GST on whatever the grading service charged me? Does a grading service like PMG make this obvious in any way?
Or worse yet, would they charge GST on the value of the package leaving me the chore to explain that it was not a purchase of the banknote itself, in order to get some of that money back once the package has arrived back in Canada?
(BCS is not an option as it is an American banknote, and I specifically want PMG) |
