Here's a pair I sent to auction and is closing Feb 9, 2025 at 8pm Pacific (after the SuperBowl). Hopefully there will be some drunk bidding...

Imagine having a pair of matching serial numbers and showing them to a civilian (non collector) and telling them that they're error notes. They'd probably scrutinize them for a minute and ask, "Where's the error ?"

You'd say, "They have the same serial number."
They'd reply, "I've seen notes with the same serial number before and they weren't errors."
You'd say, "But these are the same series. That's not supposed to happen."
They'd say, "Sounds like a clerical error to me."

And they'd be right

Both PMG and PCGS disagree, and call them a production error. No different than a blank copper planchet being stamped at the mint with Jefferson nickle dies.

Thanks for all of those who have submitted their serial numbers to Project 2013B.

The last time I mentioned the number of serial numbers in the database was in February 2023 when it stood at 31,000.

There are now over 69,000 unique serial numbers as of January 2025. It has been a busy month for confirmed matches!

Alas, they are not mine. I run Project 2013B (2013b.com), and sometimes the people that get a match don't know much at all about grading and selling at auctions, so I do it for them.

A higher than usual grade is up for auciton which ends December 15th.

A pair with the same grade sold earlier this year for just over $5000, and the current bid the last time I checked was only $825. So either people are saving bids for the last minute, or someone is going to get a real steal.

More info here, including pictures and auction prices achieved for similarly graded matched pairs. https://project2013b.blogspot.com/2...clusive.html

For those unfamiliar with this error, there is a detailed page that describes it all at 2013b.com

Small update: found another HS code "9705.29.00.00 Collections and collectors' pieces of numismatic interest" and the following link seems to imply that there are no tarrifs: https://www.flexport.com/data/hs-co...i/index.html

Has this been anyone's experience though?

Wondering if anyone has experience in this and what to expect regarding clearing customes and particularly if the value of the item(s) goes past the $800 personal duty free amount? These would be PMG graded bills by the way.

So far I have figured out the HS code is DIFFERENT than for coins and is 49070030, but not clear answer yet on what the receiver in the US would expect to pay in terms of duties or tarrifs.

Regarding " I think the american dollar has a lot to gain by adding at least one denomination above $100", I really do not see how this can be. The $100 bill is probably the most counterfeited bill in the world; you can even buy some on Ali Express. The majority of money is in the form of digits on a screen anyway. In the grand scheme of things the American dollar is going to lose it's reserve currency status sooner than later; the weaponization of it was a HUGE mistake.

No one is going to buy groceries with a $200 bill. Or even $100. Why would I miss out on getting 3% cash back on my Credit card? If I were some cash-only zealot, I would much rather misplace or lose a single $20 bill in a stack of 10, then lose a single $200 bill.

Hello all. Just wondering if anyone in Canada has had a banknote graded by PMG (or any grading company) where they had to ship their bill to the US and have them ship it back, and what (if any) duties or GST had to be paid.

Technically the banknote was always your property, so would I end up paying GST on whatever the grading service charged me? Does a grading service like PMG make this obvious in any way?

Or worse yet, would they charge GST on the value of the package leaving me the chore to explain that it was not a purchase of the banknote itself, in order to get some of that money back once the package has arrived back in Canada?

(BCS is not an option as it is an American banknote, and I specifically want PMG)

I never doubted it was rare; just wondered if a set of 10 was one of the standards, or the work of a guy with scissors. The main reason I do not collect any miscut bills.

Okay, so I have seen these dollar bills offered as either a full sheet of 40, or a segment of 4 or even just 2, but has anyone come across a sheet of 10? Picked this up at auction last night. Came with frame to boot that lets you see both sides.

I would of thought they would have easy access to bricks just based on the number of ATMs each branch has.

Funny how getting a brick of 5s would arise suspicion... unless the cost of illicit drugs has cratered and dealers need a lot of 5s to make change.

I'm used to using ebay when it comes sending stuff to the US (mostly non numismatic things), so is the declaration form something they have you fill out at the postal outlet? Or is there some form you print off that you bring with you?
