Would somebody in the Coin Community be able to provide some kind of grade and value to the pictured Elizabeth I shilling, as well as to identify its type? Frank

I've done some research on this coin, but didn't know it was up for auction last October here in Australia. It's being offered by Status International for a little over AU$8000. They rate it as gVF. I too was intrigued about the dentil arc being raised and contracted as it is. Frank |

How can one check for authenticity, save weighing the thing? The UK eBay seller (has been an eBay member since March 2006 and has 100% positive feedback) said he unearthed it with his metal detector. |

Thank you for your helpful comments. This is a coin I was thinking of buying on eBay (see http://goccf.com/t/349055). I spoke with someone about this coin last night, and they conveyed to me that it is a complete fantasy. If, for instance, you look closely at the loins tail and head you can see the colour of probably copper (copper substrate) coming through. |
