I also have a 1977 Corvette that I installed a LS1/4l60e engine/tranny into from a 1998 Camaro. The Corvette is also on my hotrodders photo journal. The pickup has a 5.3L/4l60e from a 2002 Avalanche (engine) and 2003 Suburban (tranny) |

I would get quarters all the time, in my video games, where the kids would drill holes and attach fish line so they could "string" the video game and ring up a lot of credits. I would also get nickels that had been hammered to the size of a quarter. Always seemed to me it would be easier to get a job and earn the money. |

I have been waiting patiently to find a 2017 LMC in my change. Plenty of 2016's have found their way to me, but not the 2017, until today. We went to Sandpoint Idaho for mothers day and we were walking along the beach of Lake Pend Oreille when I saw a coin laying in the sand, sure enough it was the reluctant 2017, Denver of course. Maybe I should go back and see if there is a 2017 quarter or maybe a 2017 dime and a 2017 most anything that still awaits for me to find in that sand. Denver, of course. |

I keep a toothbrush by the sink and if I can't read the date or mint mark I scrub the coin with the brush and soap. Next might be acetone, if there is glue or heavy grime, soak the coin. I don't usually clean a coin just to make it look nicer. |

I received two Fredrick Douglass quarters in change a while back and have since received several more. They must have shipped an entire box into town. |

We would rub penny's with mercury all the time back when I was a kid, made the penny nice and shiny. I don't remember where we got the mercury, but that was back before seat belts and bottled water when we lived life on the edge. |

This is the best image I could get. My phone works the best, but none of the pictures showed the date. This picture shows the raised date but it can't be read at all. The date is 1916. I was very pleased that I could take a coin, which had no date at all, and come up with a date, which required a magnifying glass, legible enough to put in my coin book.

There was a posting on here about using vinegar and hydrogen peroxide for raising the date on buffalo nickels. I gave it a try tonight and it worked great.
I had about a dozen coins and each one is now in my coin book except for one that I already had. This isn't very hard to do since my buffalo's are mostly newer and there are not many of them.
One of the coins looked like it had been dug out of a paved road or some such past and it cleaned up nice. I had more trouble reading the mint mark than the date.

This pile was mostly large bolts and nuts, also some spikes of different sizes and styles. Found quite a few rail road spikes (of course), but also a bunch of others that are used for spiking lumber together. |

Been out several times, nothing but junk so far. Found an old dump pile from the railroad that had a lot of large bolts and nuts, also spikes and such. Would have been a good find twenty years ago, but it is all rusted now. |

Quote: as far as modern coins go I never buy them, I always fill my albums with what I find in change. What's really weird is that I have almost a complete set of the state quarters, taken solely from change... EXCEPT I have not been able to find the Denver issues for Alabama (2003), Utah (2007), Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Hawaii (2008). I come across all of the above regularly, except for Alabama, my problem is always the Philly coins. I have five state coin sets going and the last one, the wall hanger, is missing Alabama.
