I have heard the warnings of a financial collapse for many years, so I am somewhat immune to the speculation. Since we have had not a financial collapse in many decades, and given that our society has been radically transformed by technology, it's not clear what role gold would have in a collapse. Bare minimum, gold will remain a store of value that allows people to maintain their purchasing power. Silver could be used locally for bartering or trade. I think that precious metals would be held as reserves by the elites, and the common people would simply barter until the financial system is rebuilt.

It's not a bad looking coin. All coins are unique. That coin has no wear or serious dings.

That's a nice coin, and the "Liberty" on the headdress is entirely readable.

It's not a good idea to stop at a restaurant to eat right after the show if you are a vendor. This happens way too often.

My first thought was that it's XF, although the details are very good on such an old coin. The lack of luster brings it down somewhat, though. It could be anywhere between XF and AU.

PCGS and NGC are the top two. It's not clear if PCGS grades more rigorously than NGC as popularly believed, at least from what I've seen. In third place is ANACS, which is considered to have less consistent grading, and then maybe ICG. ANACS and ICG are good for authentication.

I agree with the others that it looks cleaned, possibly with a chemical. However, the details are pretty sharp. I'd guess AU55 or AU58 details.

If that's natural toning, it is one of the more spectacular toned specimens I have ever seen. Nice coin.

Definitely MS. I was thinking MS-62 OR MS-61, but with gradeflation I suppose it can be bumped up a point.

That rupee coin submitted by serial is by far the most damaged coin allegedly at the hands of a third-party grader that I have seen. It looks as if a chunk of that coin just vanished.

This has been an enlightening thread. My views may differ slightly from many here, but this just underscores that one must be detached from any third-party graders. I'd consider NGC, ANACS, or even ICG as a possible replacement. Customer service goes a long way.

Yes, it is a very nice coin, regardless of grade. The photo is blurry, but the coin looks MS.
