I'm assuming DDR means double die on the reverse and 001 and 002 are varieties? I'll have to research.

Thank you also Coinfrog!

I appreciate the responses. I have a few star notes, old and new, but this one stood out to me. I'm usually asking coin questions, and am amazed at the detailed responses here!

I agree and I am relatively new as well here. I have lots of coins that Ive looked at and thought "wow. this maybe something!"

Ive learned one thing and that is to look up examples online before I post here, as most of the folks here are very very knowledgable, but sometimes get bored or irritated answering similar questions, over and over.

Nothing personal, as Ive never come across a double die and I have thousands of old and new coins, but I hope youre not turned off here, as the information you will get is likely to be very accurate, especially if you DO turn out to have a coin that maybe valuable.

I had a 1945 Mercury dime I posted that I came accross in my collection that looked AU to me. Turned out to be MS 65...which I sent in to be graded and slabbed.

Any ideas of where I can find a value or if any knowledgeable folks on here might know what this note may be valued at. I think its probably worth more than face value, but unlike coins, its hard to find information online about these.

Thanks!

I actually had to google what fsb was. I didnt know that. The top and bottom bands actually have separation, but the middle one is mostly smooth. The left of the middle band has a bit of separation but not much.

I learned something new. Didnt know FSB Mercury dime were worth that much with full band separation.

Thanks!

I bought this 1945 Winged Liberty(Mercury) dime for about $5 recently. I liked it because it has nice toning for the most part.

Any idea on the grade?

Its a common date, but the toning is rich. The back seems to have a nice strike too.

The Tucker certificate is indeed interesting and more than collectable. They made a movie awhile back about the Tucker car and the small upstart company that eventually was put out of business.

crazyglue.... oddly enough the environment does have an effect on the milkspots on some coins. Canada is typically colder and wetter and even new bullion is subjected to this over time. Mexico is largely hot and dry, which is very conducive to coins without spotting.

I have some older Brittanias that also have the spotting as well, coming from an isle with more moisture.

Moisture at room or higher temperature seem to affect coins more over time. Coins found at the bottom of bodies of water are actually preserved due to the lack of oxygen and much colder temperature.

1849 Cent From Joseph Horne Company In Acrylic I Found

Thanks!

I don't even have a clue on how much a cleaned 1849 cent is worth.

But this isn't a slab

It looks like it was literally baked into a acrylic brick. It may not have even been done in 1949, perhaps later.

A bit of history, back in the earlier part of Pittsburgh's history, Hornes was the "upscale" place to shop if you had money

Kaufmann's was the "middle class" to go departments store

Gimbels was the "working class" store. All were located in downtown Pittsburgh and all out of business now.

Also the this plate I think is also copper, but heavily burnished/worn.

I have no idea of the history behind this or how many were made/still exist.

The item is 4 by 4 inches wide/length and about 1.5 inches think. Solid acrylic(not glass)

Yea, reading here on this website, which Ive learned a lot, it looks like even back in the day it was cleaned/scrubbed pretty good before being encased.

I would think it looks like G, maybe VG for a grade. Being encased in a solid acrylic brick, it actually retained a very decent luster.

I found this paperweight cleaning out the house today. Forgot I had it. I remember this from childhood and never though much about it until now. Its my oldest coin and looks like a collectors item from the Joseph Horne department store in Pittsburgh.

Long been out of business, but I though it was neat as a kid. I think it was a cheap collector item made by the company back in the day. Its in solid acrylic with a 1849-1949 plate encased(how long the company was in business for)

Dont think its worth anything, but it now is my oldest coin and I didnt even have to buy an Airtite!

I also just learned the Mint of Poland is actually a private company and not a government mint, but is the only one actually traded on the public stock exchange there. Interesting, althought the coin I posted I think is actually legal tender but I may be mistaken
