Two Benji Enders In A Brinks Box! How Many More Did I Find?

Yes, I remember that other box... not an impossibility statistically, but definitely an outlier with all other things taken equally.

Honestly, I think the best explanation is that this last box was salted. I get the feeling either it was intentional or unintentional - perhaps an employee had those two rolls with the Benji enders put away and someone (maybe a manager) found them and dumped them into the box feeder...

Most of my experience with hoards in MWR CRH is in the nickel department... my boxes have usually held close to the expected ratios based on enders and/or sampling of 1/5 of the box of rolls... my nickel box from a few weeks ago is the latest evidence of their consistency. Got 1/2 the box and it was pretty good... so I rushed to the bank early the next morning to get the other half and it was every bit as good:

My recent trip to Summerlin, NV produced this nice 113 year-old wheatie!

I think you might want to buy a lottery ticket... statistically, given a normal distribution, what the rest of the box produced is next to an impossibility.

That is an absolutely CRAZY find, arby96! Congrats!

Only thing remotely close that which ever happened to me was an XF/AU 1928-S Buffalo eight years ago.

Nice finds, pound_foolish... That pesky '50-S is still MIA for me as well as the 55-P and 55-D... Since I'm out on the West coast, I have hopes of finding a 50-S the "normal" way someday, while the other two will definitely have to come from a collection dump...

Personally, I'm in a bit of a dime slump, despite finding lots of CWR to go through recently... the silver, and even the 2009s, has been quite evasive the past couple of weeks.

So I made a little trip out to the Vegas area for some R&R and to celebrate a good friend's birthday this past weekend...

On Monday, I pulled 6,800 nickels from 9 different branches (8 in Summerlin, 1 in Henderson)... 45 pre-60s were led by, believe it or not, my SECOND 1939-D in the past 16 days! A very choice XF example - I actually found it amongst the 20 CWR my teller/banker friend (whose birthday I was celebrating) gave me!

Also found a 1958 Philly (not pictured), a 2009-P, 2 2024-Ds, and 10 2009-Ds!

Thanks, all!

Haven't had quite the same luck this week (yet)... 1600 searched so far and nothing. Going through another 20 MWR as I type this.

Got lucky with 1 CWR of dimes this week... not one, but two silver dimes in it - a 1964 and a 1964-D!

Thanks, Brandmeister! I'm hoping there are "sister" boxes in the local area... going to hit a few of my other branches tomorrow after work in search of more.

Bought one half of a box of nickels yesterday at my usual bank on my lunch hour. 14 pre-60s including the top 6 coins. went back today before work hoping the teller still had the other half of the box and she did! 17 more pre-60s including the bottom 3 coins! Included in this group: 1928-D Buffalo, 1938, Key Date 1939-S, 1941-S Large S, 1943-S & 1944-D 35% Silver War Nickels, and 3 semi-key date 1951-S nickels. What a great box!

Nice finds! Love to see others saving their 2009 pennies as well... the Philly coins are very tough pulls out here on the West coast.

Bought 2,800 quarters this past week... and 3 stood out. I was very happy to pull a silver 1956-D last night as I finished going through them!

Thanks, all!

Last year, I also recorded a 1939-D, but no 1950-D... the year before, I similarly recorded a 1950-D in January, but no 1939-D... Perhaps this will finally a year where I find both!

Interesting to me that the find total did not even equate to one ender (25)... so it was quite the anomaly to have four enders there.

The first wheatie in the fourth row looks like a partially clipped planchet. Is it?

Just started going through 2,000 nickels I bought today... first batch of 800 produced my first key date find of the year - 1939-D in a MWR!

Haven't had much time to search and/or post this year thanks to a heavy work schedule... so far I've gone through 4,000 quarters and have a 2020-W National Park (my toughest W pull) and a 2020-W Tallgrass to show for my efforts.

Great thread, cabowabo!

You have had some good luck so far in 2025... mini-hoards of Indian Heads, 1909 VDB, 1915-D, and MS 1955-S wheaties are definitely things you don't see out there every day.

One thing I would recommend is also keeping any 2009 and 2024 nickels you find as they're worth more (even circs) than most of the older coins you're finding.
