Perfect screen filing photos, excellent lighting, a beautiful display. Any further analysis of that quarter would be pure redumdant . . . The microscope picks up a minute smudge of maybe fingernail wax touching the inside top edge if the Q , and the eagle is staring intently trying to determine if maybe a pin point touched the edge of a wing feather. Unless one of us can find an axe scar on George's forehead I am content to grade this gem 69.

Oh Dear. I commented as soon as I scanned the photograph which tell the basis for my opinion but I failed read you friends inability to remember the name of her cousin. And, also that she is contacting cousins here there and everywhere. Oh Dear. I smell possible problems. Her best advantage is the they were bequeathed or gifted to her father many years ago. Keep the cousins at bay might be wise/

This is my first visit to CCF in more than two months -- hospitalized with the THE virus. Thats all I'll say about that.

First and foremost, please do not discuss these coins with any family member or your best friends or your minister. The best person you know and trust might mention it to a second quality individual or someone who mentions the treasure while siting IN THE CHURCH PEW where an adjacent parishioner makes note. In my 80 years I learned that loose lips sink ships. Also, good luck in finding a safe place for them.

Be careful who you mention it to on a telephone-- your phone number can be traced to your address very easily.

My suggestion would be to make copies of the copies which you have already made--no more handling the stored coins than necessary. I would send a registered letter with return receipt requested to the President of Professional Coin Grading Service or to President of Heritage Auction and just send a few of the photo copies of the key dates and of course you may have other coins which could make a separate auction among that collectors stuff! The president of PCGS has been known to make an appointment right away to visit the customer to view an outstanding coin. Heritage should be very interested to market that set. Oh, Yes!

There may be a single super collector who would buy the entire Flying Eagles and Indian Heads as is, in the original album pages. Somone who says "I want it! Forget the price!"

loonielewy - Did you pay 10 cents Canadian or US? I love the beaver nickels, and that unusual toning is really pretty!

Oh. joecoin - I missed your comment. Now, don't be bashful. I know that you found some unusual source of Canadian lore.

joecoin,
Thank you very much for your last two posts, which shared information I found very interesting to learn. My father was born in Andover, New Brunswick in 1899 and we will always have a deep affection for our great neighbor to the north! I'm in the process of organizing my coins from Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Laborador, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick right now.

I have to express my amazement that the guessers and gamemasters could successfully identify a mystery coin after only (as in this round) 15 official guesses. I've had fun for every one of the 253 pages and hope to follow the banter for a long time to come.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, and I think that error has some beauty. I would put it in a 2x2, and it would take more than a muffin and a coffee to wrest it away from me.

I did the Philly mint long, long ago, and it is a historic must see for any numismatist. That city is truly a great center of United States history. An unforgettable experience in downtown Philadelpia is a visit around noon time and if memory serves, also late afternoon inside the enormous old Wanamaker Department store, now a Macy's flagship. I think they call it Center City store. Anyway, when you step into the store you are actually inside the biggest musical instrument on earth-- A hundred year old 28,000 pipe organ which lives inside that 14 story building! To experience the site and sound is a treat you will never forget.

OH, how pretty! If it were mine, I think I would have kept it in the 'antique' holder for conversation. But I understand your wanting it out for a bit. Obviously a near perfect cartwheel luster. A couple of tiny pings on the obverse rim at five o'clock and that pesky little mark in the field that Washington is staring at are the only distractions I see, and frankly they wouldn't bother me if I were looking to buy this coin as MS65 for $25.

I have really just a few of these which I received within the past 50 years and were not worth negotiating. I really love the detail on your Carson, Nevada warrant. What a beauty! Have fun in your new quest!

Thanks for giving me a reason to stay awake all night! Actually, I never even considered getting a coin sorting device, but I did a search on coin separator sorters and came up with about 600 hits ranging in price from high hundreds of dollars down to ten buck items. Some descriptions advised the reader that the device was prone to jambs. Yeah, I bet that is right.

The optical scanner would have to view each coin separately, differentiate heads from tales, read the date and the mint mark, and direct the coin ultimately to its appropriate pile destination. And that is just to start. There should be reasonable weight and size parameters checks, magnetism. (Groan)

For the volume of coins that pass through my hands I guess I will have to be content with holding each coin in my gloved hands while inspecting it through my loupe as I have for the past seventy years. It might make an interesting Christmas gift to the family who has everything.

Yes, indeed. A seller conceivably could 'give' an unsuspecting buyer a coin for face value, but then charge an exorbitant fee he wants for postage and handling. We must read the fine print!
