Thought I'd stop in, say hi and check out my favorite thread. Glad to see everyone is still finding silver. I sure miss this hobby but my main bank got orders from corporate to quit ordering my halves and they charge a 3% fee to customers for use of the coin machine for amounts over $25. I still have one bank that is willing to order for me but I can't find a dump bank. Maybe one day things will work out so I can get back into the hobby. Good luck everyone! |

Nice finds Jack. I haven't posted here in several weeks so thought I'd update my YTD total. I'm currently standing at 40.221 troy oz. and have been get 2 boxes a week for the last few weeks. I've been having some health issues so have done very little looking for another dump bank. Maybe when I get straightened out I'll see if I can find a bank willing to order and take dumps for me again and I can get back in the game. Good luck to everyone in their quest for free silver. |

Quote: I did 19 boxes in the month of March I found less & less as the month progressed next to the last week I only found 1,40% and the last week I was skunked hardly any marked coins very few NIFC, no clad proofs and mostly 1970's through 2001 found 1,90% Benny 4,90% Kennedy 2,90% silver proofs 2003S & 2004S and 17,40%
If you're disappointed you can send them to me. I agree not a great haul but still a few ounces is better than nothing. After having a few skunk streaks that lasted a few consecutive weeks I learned not to complain about any amount of silver.
I called the bank in town that I thought might be my only hope in getting them to become my new dump bank and told them I was looking for a new bank but I had some expectations from them as well. The branch manager said they had 3% usage fee on their coin machine to active customers. The more I think about it the more I'm thinking about just taking the money that's in my checking account out, putting it in the safe deposit box and not let any bank make money off my money until they're willing to do something for me. |

Quote: RCook, sure no problem, This is approximate, I take pics of most of my finds, so by the pictures I have I have pulled approx, 47 ounces and that is 45-90%ers and 181-40%ers. That is almost $800.00 smackers in silver at todays market value. Better than a poke in the eye with a sharp sitck.
Wow, that's better than I expected with all the skunks you've been getting this year. I know the numbers aren't what you're used to but still congratulations on decent numbers. I haven't had any long skunk streaks this year, but I think I have had more skunk boxes than I'd had by this time last year. As of the end of last week my silver finds were a little over 39 oz. for the year. |

Congrats on those last boxes Arby. Even if it all did come out of only 2 boxes that's still not a bad week. I know your silver finds are off for this year, but do you mind sharing how much you have found thus far in 2017? I tried to figure out today how much silver I'd found since I started roll searching halves in 2014 and the best I could figure it's a little over 300 troy oz. That's certainly been a better investment than having that initial $3000. I used to buy coins in an account drawing 1% interest. |

My dump bank had a sign posted on the door yesterday that they were going to start imposing a 5% fee to account holders on coins in access of $24.99. The head teller also told me corporate won't allow her to order halves for me anymore. There's another bank in town I'm going to check with but if they won't help me out looks like my half searching is going to be cut way back. I know this isn't going to break them but there's been between $25-30K in my checking account they've been using free of interest that's getting ready to find a new home. I also had my direct deposit set up in that checking account so they'll also lose that money. When I close the account I may talk to the branch manager and tell her she needs to let corporate know they are losing customers because of their new policy. |

Quote: Some of the boxes I'm getting the rolls have been rewrapped. The boxes are taped with brown tape like they normally are though. The person who re wraps them does an excellent job but you can still tell they have been opened on the end. One of the boxes I had all the rolls were machine wrapped and not been opened. I found 3 1964 and 2 40% in that box. So, I guess you can say I'm happy but still disappointed! Good luck all!
I had a while last year where I thought I was getting the same thing but instead it was apparently rolls that somehow failed to get crimped on one end because I was occasionally finding silver in them. Best I recall they were coming from Brinks boxes. I'm not saying you can't get coins that have been re-rolled by a previous searcher because I have on several occasions but sometimes it's the fault of the rolling machine. A couple rolls I got in my boxes last week were loose on one end. They were all wrapped in the same paper but those rolls were only crimped on one end.
I just finished last weeks boxes last night. It was a pretty uneventful week with 1 piece of silver a 1966 40%, 2 impaired proofs, and a 2013 Medio Balboa. 2017 YTD silver 39.3337 troy oz. I should be picking up 4 more boxes this afternoon. |

Quote: no boxes for me this week. I probably missed a seated half and a 70d and 70s and a silver Canadian and Panama half lol. Those are right at the top of my list. And at least a couple silver commemoratives and a silver proof or two. That'll teach to you skip getting boxes.
Allfome, the word I got today from my head teller is that corporate is wanting to take out the coin machine and stop them from doing special orders for me. She said management at the bank is fighting it so maybe there's still a slight bit of hope. |

Today is pick-up day again and I'm just getting around to updating my finds from last weeks boxes. The silver was flowing good in this part of KY last week. I had 32 pieces last week 16 40%, 1 1965, 1 1966, 6 1967, 4 1968D, and 4 1969D. This left another 16 pieces which were all 90%, among them was 1 1941S, 1 1951D, 1 1952S, (Dansco hole filler), 1 1954D, 1 1958D, 1 1960D, 2 1962D, 1 1963, 4 1964, and 3 1964D. I also got 1 1974D DDO, a few clad proofs with one of them being a 1994S World Cup commemorative. 2017 YTD silver 39.1858 troy oz.
carloscoria, congratulations on completing your Kennedy album. If I can get the 2017 D&P Kennedy's I'll have a completed business strike set with all coming from roll searching except the 1970D. |

All pre 1965 half dollars are 90% silver. 1965-1970 and 1976S circulation grade are 40% silver. The 1970 and 1976S were only available by purchase from the mint. Circulation strike halves from 1971-present are CoNi clad. 1964 proofs were 90% silver, 1965-1967 SMS (special mint set) halves were 40% silver, 1968-1970, 1976 proofs were 40% silver, 1971-1991 all proofs were CoNi clad and from 1992-present they've minted both CoNi clad and 90% silver proofs. Clear as mud now? |

Quote: 1,500 pages in this thread.
Funny you should mention 1500 pages, I was just thinking the same thing. I think when I started posting to this thread it was slightly over 1100 pages. I wonder how many ounces of silver have been found in these 1500 pages?
My favorite head teller confirmed yesterday that the bank is getting rid of their coin machine in two weeks and that she can still order me boxes of halves but won't be able to take my dumps. I guess I need to start shopping around and see if I can find a new dump bank. |
