I have been working on a type set From William III to Elizabeth II. I have had to cut corners in some ways because there are so many different types. I do collect gold only crowns down.
It is very challenging, so if you find challenging fun then it is very fun.

The present owners of medals owe no obligation, duty or responsibility to the families of the winner of the medals they now own.
The medals are on the market most often because the winner and or their family did not want them.
David Hackworth packed all of his medals in a box and sent them to Washington with explicit instructions as to where they should be stored. (I have this from his own mouth. not here say)
To many the medal is little more than costume jewelry |

Mike, please enlighten us here. What are you seeing that has so riled your righteous indignation?
I see a digital picture taken with too bright a light source of a coin with bag marks, die marks and a little wear, that is not too much for the given grade. What am I missing? |

Quote: 2. Take a lap around the floor before buying anything
Do not hold this rule hard and fast. If you see something you like at a good price buy it when you see it, it will most likely not be there by the time you are done 'taking a lap'. |

The 1982 LD and SD are pretty easy really
The LD is Male. The downward stroke of the two is thick and straight
The SD is Female more graceful, the downward stroke of the two is thinner with a bit of a curve
I used to use Australopithecus Robusto and Gracile, but too few people understood what I was talking about. |

Quote: Wow. What a contemptuous, asinine attitude to present here, especially when the OP is someone new. Shame on you. Maybe you should just avoid threads involving the "ugliest US coin of all time."
Nothing Contemptuous or asinine about anything I said.
Call ten coin shops and/or pawn shops and ask if they will pay you $1.20 each for common date circulated clad Ikes. I bet 9 out of 10 will say they are not buying them.
So, yes, I would sell every one I could get my hands on to someone paying 120% of face.
My post had a playful poke at Jbuck, which, by his response, I think he understood.
I think they are as ugly as I stated I have from the day they released the design.
So where is the contempt? Where is it asinine?

It is not a scam, but is a sham.
Sham adjective Bogus or false.
Andrew99 was not far off.
When you think of it in the past the Bands on a Mercury dime used to need to be rounded now the split just has to be full. 99% full doesn't do it. So does a coin with one percent better strike warrant multiples of value?
We shouldn't think too much about it though or we may start questioning the MS70 vs. MS69 then the market will falter the black hole will expand.... How come when I think about this I think of Tulips? |

Quote: If they are not all beat up save them. Value around $1.20-1.50.
Really? I would sell every one to anyone paying me $1.20 a piece for the ugliest US coin of all time.
I admit I am biased. |

What you are showing on the date looks like machine doubling. Like 'chatter' on woodworking it is caused by a loose tool, most often the die is not locked into press correctly and moves upon striking. This adds no value for U.S. collectors and I have heard of no premiums attached to Canadian or British collectors. |
