@biancasdad Can you remind me again what provincial means when talking about ancients.

The porous surfaces was what was making me question the authenticity too. The middle indent I noticed on alot of other genuine examples.

I was at a coin show last weekend going through a sellers bargain bin and came across these two coins. I still don't know enough about ancients to determine if these are real or not but considering the age they seem to have and other stuff I was finding in the bin, I figured it would be worth a shot at the price they were. I don't even know if they are Macrinus and Diadumenian, that just looked the closest to these two. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to hearing all you experts feedback!

1709 Isle Of Man 1/2 Penny, James Stanley Issue

I picked up this coin earlier this year and just wanted to share it here, hopefully there's some other collectors who can appreciate it. I never thought I would run into one of these out in the wild, let alone afford it.

This coin was the first coin issued under James Stanley, the 10th Earl of Derby, and was crudely cast in Castle Rushen after the request to have coins minted for Isle of Man was first rejected by Sir Isaac Newton and then the Royal Mint. After both rejections, the Earl decided to cast the coins himself and they were eventually proclaimed current on June 10th, 1710 by an Act of Tynwald.

Obverse Description
The Stanley crest and moto: on a chapeau gules, turned up ermine below an eagle with wings spread standing (or preying) on a baby in its cradle; around above, SANS CHANGER; below, 1709

Reverse Description
At centre, triskelis: three legs joined at the upper part of the thigh, flexed, garnished and spurred; around, QUOCUNQUE GESSERIS STABIT (wherever you throw it, it will stand)

I found this cool little chair awhile ago in an antique store. It is made from coins from Costa Rica, a 1923 1 Colon counter stamped on 1903 JCV 50 Centimos and a 1923 50 Centimos counter stamped on a 1889 HEATON 25 Centavos.

Id take a chance on it at around 50-60usd. I've got 8R in similar condition around the same date for that. I've seen that "rim" on other examples and have been told its excess metal being pushed up out of the collar. It looks genuine to me but I'm no expert.

Edit: I just realized swamperbob posted this so I'm assuming it's a fake, but I'm gonna leave my reply so I can be schooled on my ignorance.

I second the gold fanam. I'm no expert on them so I can't give you an exact ID but more than likely a fanam.

I picked up a 1587 6 pence today and cannot seem to find any info on this date anywhere. Does anyone know anything about this coin.

I will upload pics as soon as I figure out how to upload pics since photobucket links are no longer allowed for some reason.

A friend of mine is having trouble ID'ing this medal or token. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
It's about 32mm in diameter and looks to be silver or maybe silver plated.

That's not what the coins are being kept in, it was just used to transport them from the owners house to mine. It was the only thing they had handy to put the coins in. That bucket is the LAST thing I would keep coins in.

Coin cents, that's a great suggestion. I think I'll start with separating them. Thank you for the input.

I usually don't hunt for errors or varieties very often, except for the obvious ones, so does anyone have any recommendations as to what I should be looking for? Most of these are gonna be LMC, maybe some LWC. Probably 30-40 pounds worth. Any suggestions will be appreciated and I will keep the thread updated with any finds.

Thanks for looking!

TPGs are killing this hobby. This is why people with no knowledge think their coins are worth so much money.
