Hey ya'll hope everyone is doing well and keeping the business going while I was gone

So, I took a break from collecting because I started University last September, and was hoping to get back into it over summer break. Now that I'm back from school and working a 9-5 job and volunteering for the rest, looks like I won't really be able to give the hobby the justice it deserves.

I'm kinda unloading my collection now because it's just been sitting in the bank locker for a while. I got rid of most of my lower-value coins last year, so now I've just got a few gems left that I was hesitant to sell before. I have one specific coin that I have a question about...

A PCGS 1914 $10 graded MS-65. I can't seem to find any auction prices realized. I've checked eBay, HA and the usual places. There are a few for BIN/OBO but they're overpriced IMO

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/1914-Canadia...141918768887
http://www.collectorscorner.com/Pro...?id=25818250

Would appreciate some input on what would be a fair price to list this at. I don't want to take the chance with an auction so I'd rather just list it as a BIN/OBO.

Another question: is eBay the right outlet to be selling this? The most expensive coin I've sold on eBay was for $1200 and I see this one going for a fair bit more. Would an auction house be worth exploring? I know I'm gonna get lowballed if I take it to a dealer.

Thanks in advance.

Coin is a fake. Worth Nothing (Unless you are very lucky and its is made of real gold, in which case its worth its weight in gold).

I agree with the opinions so far. Your coin is very nice looking and certainly fairly graded. Certainly well struck as well. Have you checked seateddimevarieties.com to see if it's a valuable variety? If not, I can see this one pulling as much as $750.

Hey what are the stats on the 1914 $10 coins in MS-63 to 65? I have a PCGS MS-65, but I imagine ICCS wouldn't give it that. Thanks.

Looks like an NGC slab to me

Yes indeed it is. Looks like I was being very absent minded when posting this. I'll have a picture of the reverse up in the evening, however, the marks on the chin, a very prominent area of the obverse, are so deep that I don't see how they would've arrived at this conclusion. A 64 is a near gem grade, and even if it is nothing special to see in a morgan, it still means a fairly clean coin.

This is the type of coin that people only really want to acquire the date of, and aren't looking to get a conditional rarity.

The 1948 $1 is common when compared to actually tough coins like the 1889 10C, 1858 8/5, or the 1906 Small Crown.

The reason the price doesn't spike from MS-60 to MS-63 and then again to MS-65 is because such a large percent of these are in Mint State.
At the time, people saw the low mintage of the date and rushed to stockpile these. The low minateg meant that it is still "rarer" than other silver dollars, but since so many are MS, the actual difference in rarity between an AU-50 and MS-60 or an MS-60 and an MS-62 is negligible.

In comparison, the rarity difference between the tens of thousands of 1900 10C's and those few choice gem specimens is evident.

The date is just as bad on the 1884, but the rest of the coin is much more convincing than the 1875-H IMO. If these showed up on eBay, I'm sure some unsuspecting buyer would scoop them up (Don't get any ideas )

@DEVLEC: I would be very surprised if these coins were acquired more than 10 years ago, and I'm hoping he didn't pay for these series Key Dates thinking they were genuine, although the fact that these were found with a bunch of genuine coins in a somewhat serious collection doesn't give me much hope.

The date is a dead giveaway here. I believe this coin was made using a spark erosion process which is giving it this look. I've seen an 1875-H 25C counterfeit that has the same look to it. Look forward to seeing the 1884.

If you're looking for a quality store in Calgary, check out the Calgary Coin.

Robert kokotailo, the owner is very friendly, knowledgeable and willing to haggle prices. More so than a lot of the other dealers I see most of whom are just grumpy old men. Calgary Coin is my go to place for Ancients, Medieval and Canadian Coins. For US coins I prefer eBay, but with the conversion rate way up there, I haven't been making any purchases in USD lately.

Silver Proof coins often tone more vividly, deeply and irregularly than business strikes. That said, I'm on the fence here. TBH I like it either way and would want it in my collection.

1. Not a scratch. Just a light die crack.
2. Its a combination of two things. Firstly the holder. Secondly, the bottom right corner is somewhat weakly struck or maybe it was just struck through grease. In hand it is visible, but certainly less pronounced rhat the other devices of the coin.
3. No die crack here, just a slightly darker streak of toning.

Looks like there is some surface damage between the date and the "CENTS".
