You've perfectly expressed how I feel when finding older coins out in the wild!

I have this wheat cent in my collection that is in ROUGH shape. In trying to figure out the date, I feel like I can make out a 90, so am guessing it's a 1909. Anyone have any better ideas? Or am I just wishing it into existence so that I can say I own a 1909?

Been away from the hobby for a few years (it feels like). I'm mostly a collector based on what I find in circulation, so Covid is blame.

Anyway, the username, should be evident!

If your dad "wasn't a collector" I don't know what that makes me!

I'm just glad that you're not selling them to melt. I hate seeing the lost history.

I actually bought the 2020 silver proof set today. That's not the type of collector I am though. I find more joy in finding coins in the wild...being surprised. It means my collection is on the smaller side but I typically don't get the same enjoyment from premeditated acquisitions.

Perhaps I'm not a proper collector, but I see value in it in coin form. Maybe not top dollar but I'd hate to see us lose its history if melted down.

About ten years ago, I got two rolls to search and found a mercury in the first one. Boy my expectations were set incorrectly.
