I bought a grab bag of assorted world coins at a pawn shop for $20. I could tell it had enough silver in there to make it worth it. When I got home, I kept finding more and more :-) I found there were 48 50% silver sixpence, 47 50% silver threepence, a sterling shilling, 5 sterling sixpence, 25 sterling threepence, all Australian. Also 2 US silver dimes, and a 50% New Zealand sixpence.

Thanks for the responses. I have added better photos now. Sel_69!, it was nice meeting you at the Petersham show.
This coin seems MS to me, but I am not certain.

$7 face of nice Canadian 80% silver at the Petersham show in Sydney. Got it all at slightly under melt.

60 Canadian silver dollars, at $2 over melt total. Good value in my book.

Thanks everybody. The amounts I mentioned in my original post were AUD. I have updated my profile, I have moved for the US to Australia a little over a year ago. I collect US and Australian coins, also Canadian and some UK coronation medals. I bought a 1932 florin in F for $350 after looking at dozens, still shopping around for the Centenary florin. Pincetane, you did very well. I think I would need to pay at least $400 for a similar coin. Many are listed at $500+

I would like to buy a Centenary florin, but I don't want to overpay. Renniks says $300 for VF and $425 for EF. Are these prices realistic, or can they be had for less?
I want a problem free VF to EF to complete my florin set, and maybe even a second one for my Australian type set. Any advice or tips would be appreciated. Thanks

In the case of my palladium plus ring, I sold it a few years ago for about 90% of what I believed the palladium value to be. The buyer told me that when he had it melted, that he was told that it was less than 90% pure. (about 75% pure, IIRC)
I gave him back a portion of what he had paid, as I trusted him and had done other business with him before.

I would focus on coins that are interesting and appealing but affordable to get in somewhat nice condition.
Large cent, Flying Eagle cent, Liberty nickel, walking liberty half, maybe VF-EF.
Morgan dollar, Peace dollar, Buffalo nickel, steel cent, silver Roosevelt and Mercury dimes, Washington quarter, Kennedy and Franklin halves, Uncirculated.
You will enjoy them, and can gradually move to other goals such as a gold coin, or earlier type coins

I also think half of the G4 price for AG3 is a good rule of thumb. But only for coins with decent eye appeal.
Not quite a full rim is ok , missing some details is ok, but I want a full date, no major corrosion or scratches, or more wear than an AG3 should have

Welcome, gregorystan
I am a US coin collector, with an Australian wife, so I have become interested in Australian coins
I have a 1938 King George VI Crown, and a Queen Victoria Melbourne sovereign. I like the old sterling florins, and the 1966 50 cent coins

Great set, you have a good eye for quality
For me the Flying Eagle cent, Bust Dime, and several of the Seated Liberty coins stand out, among others

I like gold sovereigns. They are fractional (.2354 oz) and can be found for low premiums back to the 1880's or so.
They were made in England, Australia, and South Africa, with a variety of mint marks and portraits.

A nice group of proof and uncirculated coins. Wow, it all looks like 65 or better to me, except for the 1955 Franklin.
Over $600 total value here by the Red Book. (I know that's too high)
Still a nice batch of eye candy, part of a package deal, along with an album of 34 Standing Liberty quarters, including 1917-D and S, type 1, 1918, 1919, 1920-D, 1920-S, 1924-D, 1924-S, 1927-D and 1927-S, all
Good, except the 1917-S type 1 is AG.
Also about 60 nice G-F Indian cents, and about 15 G "V" nickels, and a few other odds and ends.

I love the bit of red on the obverse of the 1916.
The 1922 may have been minted with grease in the obverse die.
The 1916 and 1920 seem EF to me, but I know grading is tougher for Australian coisn.
I previewed my post and rotated the photos, and they still came out sideways.

Thanks for the link, danim. If I understand the French correctly, the rarity is 97 out of a scale of 100.

I still have it danim. I had it listed on eBay about 2 years ago, it did not sell. I think I was trying to get something like $50, not really knowing what it was worth, even after googling, looking for another on eBay etc.
It did not sell, I don't think I got an offer either. It weighs 15 grams, mine is number 1580. .900 is on the token, in small print, to the right of the castle. Mintage is probably fairly low, but demand may not be that great either.. Melt value is about $7.50. Someone who likes it might pay $10, I don't think it would bring more than that.
