My gift arrived today!
Thanks Susuman, what a fantastic and thoughtful gift.

This gift included a 2016 Australian silver dollar, a 2011 Sochi 25 Commemorative Ruble and a 1893 Columbian Exposition half dollar!
And some really great foreign coins including coins from Russia, Japan, Iran and Brasil.
Also some really fun Classic Car bills which included by birth year. (How did you know?)
And chocolate coins! Everybody loves chocolate coins! |

I didn't buy it as an investment, I bought it to complete my set. I am going to set the coin free of it's slab and give it a new home in my album.
I realize, as an investment, this coin isn't the best. |

Thanks for your thoughts.
The price I paid is about the limit I had set for buying this coin. As I see it this was preferable to an AG3 with a date that can hardly be read. A scratch doesn't bother me that much, whereas a cleaned coin would be out of the question.

I just picked up a 1913 S Type 2 Buffalo Nickel. On the obverse it has a scratch across the hair and large feather otherwise it is a nice clean coin. Certified as an ANACS VF20 Details.
I paid $170, plus shipping and tax, making it $188 total.
What do you think, Nice Price or CP? (Apologies to Jalopnik)

And coin collecting is also an appreciation of art.
Walkers and Buffs are absolutely amazing examples of artwork. I can't think of a more affordable work of art that you can literally carry around in your pocket. |

I started collecting cents when I was 8 years old in 1965. It never occurred to me that it was a hobby that would die off because of lack of interest.
I don't want to leave what I've acquired to someone that will just dump it in a coin counter. |

Thanks Canadian Santa!
I must have been good, I got a 1939 Canadian silver dollar in AU/MS condition. Based on some Googling I now know that it was issued to commemorate King George VI's visit to Canada. On the obverse is the King and on the reverse the Parliament Building in Ottawa.
Also Canadian Santa sent me a 1923 .25 cents fractional currency note which is great and is a nice addition to my early 20th century currency collection.

Thanks again Santa!
