Ya I think typecoins has it too, lol.
I don't have a pic of mine together so I'll bow out..
But I believe the type 1 Liberty head gold dollar is the smallest US coin made for general circulation, beating out the three cent silver by a millimeter.. 13mm vs 14mm
Those and my single 1861 3c silver (metal rotation) would be my smallest US... I may have a couple foreign smaller (not as small as typecoins though, lol). And largest, like many, also probably an ASE, Philharmonic, Liberdad etc..

I think ANACS is waaayyy underrated, they're still my TPG of choice, even though I'm not a huge fan of the new slabs themselves. And for varieties and VAM's I think ANACS is the only choice. And I find the old small white slabs to be pretty accurate, both grade and designation wise, again they're bar none my favorite slabs to pick up. IMHO they do fine on PL/DMPL.... There's no questioning mine (I only have that one CC DMPL In a small white slab though) so they got that one right, lol.
Lol, it's no secret if you've known me in here for a while, that I'm not really a fan of TPG's at all, in fact I break out every coin unless it's an attributed variety AND valuable, or just straight up valuable..... Unless it's a small white slab, for some reason I really like those and just can't break them out. Heck, that CC DMPL I posted I think is easily undergraded, I think it's a lock at 64.... But I won't send it in because I like those darn slabs too much! |

That was weird... They should be fixed now. I'm stumped.... That's the first photo I've put on a post in a while and they're from my "previously uploaded" pics.... They were right when I previewed my post, lol..... Weird. O well, hopefully they're right now. I'll try to get an obverse pic of the whole slab tonight. It's a small white old ANACS slab... Bar none my favorites to buy.
Another thing to do is look for Morgan's that somehow didn't get the PL/DMPL designation... I've got a couple slabbed that I just don't know how they didn't get the designation... For regular prices.
Kinda bad pics, don't really show the PL aspect too well, I had to take the photos at an angle, but it's definitely quite mirrored, all I can think is the black smudge (grease?) through "United" on the reverse held it back? This ones a PCGS 64. And by all "measuring guides" etc for PL/DMPL it should have at least gotten the PL IMHO. In fact, another guy was checking it out at the LCS when I bought it (on the counter with my "pile to buy", lol) and he, I and the two shop workers all thought it was absolutely PL... But hey, my gain! Now if I could just get rid of that black smudge! (On a side note, I have a dragon privy reverse proof maple leaf ((slabbed)) with almost the same smudge in the same spot?)

My first detector was a cheap bounty hunter (-$100) and it works ok.... I origionally bought it to find something I'd dropped in the back woods, but have since used it to hunt some old cellar holes/houses and it's worked just fine.... You just have to dig everything as it doesn't discriminate as well as the nicer machines, no tell the depth etc... but it works.
I've posted this before, but this was my first coin find, hunting the same property as my buddy with a nice machine.... If memory serves, it was about 6" under.... 1820 small date large cent, N8. I'd put it at AU Here's a pic before I cleaned the dirt off.... It just shows the details better, it looks worse but it's just caked on dirt. The other pics are a hair blurry and don't show the details as well as these

No complaints with it from my standpoint, lol, it worked as advertised... though if you can afford to get a nicer machine id say go for it, I've since upgraded, though I've yet to top this find, lol.

Wow... I was holding off on giving an opinion until you took better pics.... And man you succeeded there, great photos!
This ones tough.... It appears to have the slightest amount of wear on the high points, but otherwise it's very clean.. I'm going to have to say AU-58, though a MS grade wouldn't surprise me either. If this old girl saw circulation is was very brief.... It seems to me that this is a great example of where a AU-58 looks far nicer than a low MS grade... (If a 58) I'd rather this coin than many many 60's-62's! Wow... Ya, if it wasn't for what appears to be that slight rub I'd say easily a 64, for such a large, soft coin it's surprisingly clean.
But regardless of grade she sure is a beauty! |

I won't even consider it unless it's I want a variety attributed or it's a rarer/more valuable coin, unless theres something unique or special about the coin nothing under $500 is even considered.... Probably more actually, again unless there's something needing attribution or something else "special".
But I hear a lot of people say that if the price they paid + the shipping/grading fees won't put them into the negatives when they go to sell then they'll have them graded. And some people will slab coins with sentimental value that obviously wouldn't seem to be worth the fees... If only for the sake of preservation etc.
I guess my cut off value might be a bit high..... But then again, I'm not really a huge fan of grading companies.... At all.... so I may be over critical. I just prefer raw coins and don't see a point in slabbing unless there something worth noting or it's a rare variety, error etc, or pretty rare/valuable in general. In fact, lol, if the coins worth less than 500ish and I bought it slabbed... there's a good chance I'm going to set it free of that plastic coffin.. |

Nice Morgan, she's definitely got a great strike for a New Orleans minted coin... Unfortunately, she was even crisper before she circulated, which she absolutely has. As noted this was actually a good year for New Orleans so the nice strike isn't too surprising. The wear on the high spots is a dead giveaway, the Eagles breast, wings, as well as the high points on the obverse, as well as the halos/scuffs. Id put her at AU55, maybe 58 even.
I don't think it's been cleaned at all... Ok, well... t's probably been dipped at somepoint like the majority of older coins... But not harshly cleaned etc. The halos and "scuffs" in the fields are a tell tale sign of light circulation for Morgan's, not quite the same look as bag marks nor the same as a cleaning. It's definitely got a great strike compared to many other year "O""'s, but unfortionitely a good strike won't bump it up into a MS grades, if it was, say a MS63 but oh so close to a 64, and had an exceptional strike and dripping luster (&/or nice toning etc), they may bump it up to the 64 grade, that's not uncommon at all.
