When I was in junior high, I acquired a 1854 quarter. Since I lived in Illinois and I got the coin there, I figured that coin could have been in Abe Lincoln's pocket at one time or another. It's the history the coins represent that I like.

Hope you all are staying safe.

Thanks, fellas. I've got it now. As a matter of fact, I even own a camera stand (somewhere) which would work great, if I can figure out how to mount the microscope on it. Once I find what I did with it. That would really be cool, for easy raising and lowering.

As soon as I get it set up, I will take a picture of my favorite coin and publish it for all to see.

Thanks again.

Hope you're all staying safe.

I saw that the Plugable digital microscope was recommended by several of you, so I bought one (USB 2.0) from Amazon ($40 model). I am extremely stupid about microscopes and cameras, so I am hoping some of you who are familiar with this could help me.

The description said it is 0X to 250X, so I assumed I could change the power, but I don't see how to do that. And a dollar-size coin is too big for the frame. I know if I raise it up higher I could get more of the coin in.

I am embarrassed by how dumb this sounds but I just don't understand how to do this stuff. I will say the set up was easy enough.

So, experienced users -- please give me some hints. I really wanted it basically just to take pictures of coins.

Thanks.

Jan

Thanks, erafjel. This came with a bunch of other currency and coins from an old aunt who died a couple years ago. I'm first getting around to looking at the paper money. I am not sure what to do with it.

By the way, I'm a big fan of the World Coin Gallery for identifying coins -- is there a similar site for currency?

I got my present today, a very nice collection of Ikes, Kennedy halves, and also a '63 Ben Franklin.

Very grateful to my Secret Santa. I'll post pictures if I can get good ones.

So glad I participated again this year. It's always such fun. And thanks to Richard for doing it.

Thanks very much, Secret Santa!

My CCF Secret Santa is in Canada. I think I did something really wrong the last time I had to mail a coin to Canada, but it was long ago and I don't remember what the trouble was.

Can I just put it in a padded envelope? I am housebound right now, and I don't want the person who is going to take it to the post office for me to have any hassle.

Please advise.

Thanks and happy holidays.

I have two one-ounce .999 silver coins from the Republic of Chad. I just noticed that one, the 2017 Deathstalker Scorpion, claims its is worth 500 Francs CFA. The other is the 2018 Mandala Lion that shows its face value as 5000 Francs CFA.

Inflation can't be that much out of control in Chad, can it? Anybody know what that's about?

I met a guy at a coin show who collects 1964 Kennedy half dollars. Not any other half dollars. Not Kennedy halves from other years. Not any other 1964 coins. Just 1964 Kennedy halves.

A collection with a rather narrow scope, don't you think?

Received my gift today, a treasure of Canadians, plus a commemorative item, which indicates my Secret Santa was Googling me. Thanks so much, Mike. (For the coins. We'll talk about the confetti later.)

Although the walking liberty (half, ASE) is my favorite, I sometimes think it's good to let Lady Liberty take a load off.

APMEX is selling a 1-oz silver "Czech lion" coin that they claim is "Guaranteed by the Czech Mint" but which is obviously minted by/in Niue complete (with the likeness of QEII on the obverse and a value of 2 dollars -- not koruny).

What exactly are these?

Well, I've bought from them as well as APMEX, JM Bullion, and Silver.com, and I didn't notice anything in particular. What did I miss?

I have six or eight copper rounds that I've bought just because they were shiny and pretty and I liked the design. I do put them in AirTites to keep them shiny and pretty. Also I bought a box of 50 capsules thinking I was out, and then I found another box, so I've got plenty to spare.

Well, I'll stick up for the ASE. I like the design just the way it is, but then, Walking Liberty is my favorite design of all US coins, so I would. Its only other virtue, besides being silver and pretty, is that I buy one every year, usually at the first coin show of the year, from a dealer who is glad to sell it.

Wooden Nickels Looking For A New Home

Anyone interested in acquiring a whole bunch of wooden nickels? I am downsizing and want to unload about 250 of them. Roughly 75% are from coin shows or clubs. They're all loose. I could provide a list.

I would trade them all or a random handful, your choice, for a nice 2017-D quarter depicting George Rogers Clark.

PM if interested. Thanks for listening.
