The coin appears to have some very minor wear on the reverse and the obverse ( this could also be seen as a strike issue) with obvious scratches on the obverse in the fields and across the Kings face.
However this could grade as high as MS63, Either way a fantastic find in a Bulk lot

Maybe this could be a strike through error where there was a bit of debris on the blank or the die when the coin was struck that caused this hole.
The hole is also a very odd shape for a simple hit, So maybe this isn't PMD after all.

Here is a 64 for comparison.
https://www.PCGS.com/cert/31577510

If I bought this coin "Sight Unseen" I would be bitterly disappointed with it when I had it "In Hand".
For a MS64 grade coin it is pretty nasty looking with that big "Divot" in the Queens cheek.
PCGS May be good But they don't get it right every time

The Queens cheek and hair above the ear on the obverse and the "20" on the reverse are the high points on this coin.
With the excessive "Chatter" on the obverse in these areas and some moderate "Chatter" on the reverse could be viewed by PCGS/NGC as wear so this could grade anywhere between AU55- MS62.
There is Far too much chatter on this coin for it to grade any higher than MS62.

Those are Not scratches at 3 o'clock, There are however 2 tiny curved marks on the Queens chin and at the base of her neck.
These small marks may have been why the coin only graded MS64 But I have seen MS65 coins that are not as nice as this particular coin.

I was a little disappointed in the MS64 grade given this coin by PCGS.
In hand it easily presents as a MS65 coin and has a rather nice satin like lustre and appearance.

Impossible to make an accurate assessment of this coin using those images But I will have a stab in the dark anyway at MS62.

Well...I have ANOTHER 1943 cent that I think may have a die clash...
On this one it looks to me like there is a raised area that above the back of the kangaroo and above the word "penny". I ain't no expert but to me it sort of looks like it's the shape of the king's head.
Anyone care to opine?

What you have there is what we call "Ghosting" and it is quite common on Australian George 6th and Elizabeth 2nd penny's and half penny's.

Anybody got any ideas on why this is happening with these coins? Or am I the one who is wrong?

The "P" on the coin is a "Mintmark" that is used by the Perth Mint, It has nothing whatsoever to do with if the coin is a Proof or not

These are my favourite pre decimal Australian coin design, Unfortunately this one has been heavily circulated which funnily enough is not that common.

No, It's off another dealer. Don't tell me it's a fake as well?

I don't think anyone is calling either of these coins "fakes"
There are many double struck examples of decimals around and hopefully the "Mule" isn't Mint sport which means that there should be many others out there in the wild for other collectors to find over time.
Time will tell for this one
