Sorry, this coin is far to corroded to be identified, although Bob might be able to figure it out.

It's a big old guy, that may help some.

It's an interesting example of what a couple of thousand years can do to a coin...or very harsh cleaning.

Really makes one appreciated coins that are in good condition that have made it through the journey.

Hello Andi10

If you flip your reverse image over, it looks like it could Phoenician.

Didn't see an exact match but here are two from ACsearch that are similar.

Check out the AE coins from Tyrus or Tyre.

I actually like the green mineral on the coin. It's a great thickness and color.

Keep it in your mineral collection.

To me it looks like the coin was broken and maybe it was a small flan as well. Therefore the legend is not visible.

What appears to be letters are actually the horses legs.

What is under the horse that looks like a large X I don't know, maybe something with the encrustation.

Great post Lgandrews.

Haven't found it yet, but definitely a horse prancing right when rotated.

Maybe a double strike or flip over double strike?

Parcial legend above horse?

Your set is really looking great, Paul.

Always a pleasure to see the next one.

The similar patinas are super, super write ups too.

Very nice write up Paul. What a great trip you had!

Congrats on the coin. I had my eye on that one at one time.

I was able to get this one a while back. It proved to be very hard to photograph because of the grainy surface, the legend doesn't show up very well.

Not sure of the ID, but I think it's ACIP 1093 C.O.G.C.M.A. with Q below.

Hmm...?

So far I could find no match for a double cornucopiae and Tyche on the obverse, or a turreted head.

Hopefully someone will ID this one.

Very nice Novicius

One of my very first ancient coins was this type, but I've never known much about them.

I think it's age and being cast is what drew my interest.

Interesting write up.

Coins one and two in my post above should be labeled Castulo 'Latin legends' rather than bilingual.

This Obulco has both Latin and Iberian script

I do collect them, and thanks for posting. Your collection is great!

I particularly like the ones from the Phoenician settlements.

Here are some a few less well known issues.

I have no coins to add to the thread, but this is really cool Bob.

Keen observation and very imaginative idea for a topic.

The other coins posted are also very cool.

Thanks. Well done.

Thanks. Yes 17mm 4.1g

Both the coins your considering are great choices.

The type from Samnium I think would be a perfect fit. I've always wanted one of those.

I have that type from Malaka also, but not in great condition.

Not to change the subject, but do you collect Iberian coins?
I have quite a few.

Thanks Paul

In the ACIP this coin is 794, with the tongs to the left.

But it is another one of those coins that some reference to Hephaistos, and others (ACIP, Burgos and most) reference to Vulcan, like what you were saying about Aphrodite having Greek and Roman references.

https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=1002682

Makes it difficult to decide if it should be in the set.

I've often wondered how the experts decide who the Deity really is on ancient Greek coins.

With patience and a little luck we'll get these sets completed to our satisfaction. Someday.

You before me, probably.

Your set is looking great,Paul. Looking forward to the next ones.

I have picked one of the Malaga types for Hephaistos in my set, but I will eventually replace it because of the reverse.

I've been tempted to add silver to the mix for Hera and Aphrodite, but so far I'm being stubborn and holding out for bronze.

There are a few.

Wow

Great Hermes, and the griffin reverse puts it over the top!

Nice addition
