Please Help Looking For Help With Half Dollar Coin Roll Hunting

Hi All, I got a bunch of half door rolls and am about to start sorting them. Does anyone have suggestions on best way to get started (i.e. organizing them by date then searching the dates, or using a list of key dates and pulling them aside to be checked after)? I've never coin roll hunted before and I'm sure there are techniques to make it go smoothly. Also, I've found a lot of detailed lists for pennys and other coins, but I can't find a comprehensive list for half dollar key dates AND varieties. I'm looking for a list of possibly the top 50 or 100 half dollars to look for, does such a thing exist for half dollars like the lists I've found for pennys? Thanks as always!!!

sorry I should have added pics of the outside rim. It has a strong inward groove with the brightest metal looking like it overlaps then stops where it recesses, almost like a clad but this should not be a clad coin. Is this typical with this type of rim error, or something else going on here?

Hi all, I found this penny in my collection and am having trouble identifying the issues. First, can someone please confirm what the rim issue is? Also, do you see doubling in the date (I am new to this and trying to distinguish between the different "Doubles", but to me with the date showing signs of doubling on each side of the numbers and liberty looking very fat would this be a doubled die? and for the back I have no idea what is going on!! My first guess would be PMD, but something looks odd about it, almost like I'm seeing letters or other designs behind the main strike. In the center of the strike it is very week and can barely read america. it looks like there are scratches all over it but seems weird the front would be in such better condition. Also, whats up with the two dots below wheat stocks? And does that look like an 8 inside the U? When you stare at something long enough you start seeing things lol and I can't figure out whats up with this coin! Thanks as always excited to hear your professional thoughts.

Hi All, does anyone have suggestions on a comprehensive list of errors that can be found in one place? I've found a few onlonline but feel there must be somewhere that had a full directory of all known errors for a specific type coin (i.e. penny, half dollar, etc.). Does such a thing exist? Not specifically DD or other common errors, but a lost of all known varieties? Thanks!!

I was thinking same thing, but seems like a lot of weight to loose to still be able to see detail on the coin. A lot of the lines are still there just covered in crud that I could probably clean off. I think the second S in cents is pretty clear, does anyone see the second S? I can't find anything online about it

I'm seeing some odd things on this coin... I wish it was cleaner and could make them out!! Does anyone see a second S in cents on the reverse? I've also been trying to decider the date but It looks like there are date numbers not exactly aligned with where they should be. Doesn't make sense but as I know they are stamped with the rest of coin but from different angles it really looks like another date with different font. Any thoughts on the second "s" after cents?

Hi All, I found this buffalo nickel in my collection and happened to put it on my scale. It reads 4.5 grams and all my other buffalo nickels are right around 5 (where I believe it should be so I think the scale is right on). Any thoughts on why this would weigh so much less? I'm a novice but I don't think these were clad so wouldn't be missing clad right? My first though is PMD but seems strange to loose that much weight and still see a lot of the coin. I think I could clean it to see date but wanted to try and get some info before doing anything to it (I know don't CLEAN IT!! LOL). It also seems thinner than my other buffalo nickels. Could it be wrong planchet or something else? I have others worh environmental damage but this ones throughing me off cause ot doesn't look like my other tarnished nickels.

Hi All, sorry I don't believe this is the place to post these coins, but I cannot find a link for british coins. Can someone please direct me to the correct place to post these? Or possibly answer my question here? I have two coins shown and I'm not sure if they were minted with the "dents" on them or if this is PMD. It's odd as I've never seen damage like this before. Any thoughts on either of these coins would be greatly appreciated!!

2008 P Presidential Dollar Missing Clad?

Thanks Spence. I've come across a lot of environmental staining but this one kind of stuck out as it actually looks like an old copper penny surface (in person anyways). I'm learning as I go here and been having a lot of fun searching coin rolls lately. Obviously it is hard to tell in pictures, but is there anything specific I should be looking for to compare surface staining versus missing clad? And would something like this, if it was a missing clad error, have any value? Thanks!

Hi All, this should be my last apology about the pictures as my new coin scope should be in today!! I was searching some dollar rolls and found this 2008 P presidential dollar that appears to be missing clad (typically a Shiney gold coin). I was wondering what the proper term is for this? And is there any value? It looks exactly like a pennys surface and I don't see any signs of the gold that it should be. As always thanks a bunch for your expertise!!

Hi All, I will start with an apology about the picture!! I am new to this and just today ordered a coin microscope so I can supply better pictures. I'm also on the road and going through a bunch of pics I took on my phone for me to go through while traveling so I can't go back and retake picture of this coin (or get a pic of the obverse as I know you would like to see that). With that being said, is anyone able to tell me what is going on with the upper portion of this coin? I'm not sure if it was damage or an error with the coin. I'm learning with every new find and any insight would be great. Thanks!!

Hi All, I was wondering if someone can explain whwt is am seeing here and the difference to look for In DD, MD, and other variations that may look the same. I keep seeing things that to my eye would look like DD, but from what everyone has shared here I don't believe it is. I've included some arrows pointing towards what I'm looking at and appears to be areas with multiple shadows on the letters. I've seen this on a lot of coins and I'm wondering what the reason is and what I should be looking for while searching for DD or other errors. Thanks!!

Hi All, as mentioned in other posts I am new to this and the community has been great answering my questions. I've had a few coins that I've posted where I thought they were DD because it looks like doubled letters or other attributes, but have been told they are not. Can someone please explain the difference and what I am seeing with the appearance of a second line or detail in some places? (Not just here but other coins as well where it appears letters are doubled but have been told they are not). On the nose of this coin it looks clear as day to me that there are two seperate shadows where it looks like it is either overlaid or stamped more than once. Can someone please tell me the reason for this and why I see it in dates and letters of other coins but it is not considered a DD (or possibly this one is... I don't know enough to tell lol!!). An education on this would be huge as I'm really trying to learn what to look for. Also, I have ordered a better camera setup and apologize for the blurry pics, but while lookong st the coin does the D mint mark appear to be off? Very hard to tell in pics, but looking at it with naked eye appears to be smudged but could be environmental. Thanks as always!!

I was thinking a die chip. Is that odd (or add value) having one in an uncirculated set like this?

It is raised. I apologize about the pictures, with the plastic cover over them I can't get the light right or a good angle (I've been trying for hours!!). You can see it with naked eye and appears to be a piece of folded metal on top of wing or extra metal in that location. I think a lot of the scratches you see are on the plastic as the coins look very clean

Hi All, I've been going through some coins and stumbled across what appears to be a die issue in this Denver coin set. There appears to be an issue on the wing of the quarter possibly a die crack? As I've mentioned I'm new to this and learning a lot from the community!! Has anyone ever seen something like this in a set like this? Could it be worth anything? I am still struggling to recognize double dies, I think I have a bunch lol, but know I do not. I keep seeing what looks like a letter stamped twice and slightly off set but have been told these are not double dies. It is hard to tell in pics but I see it in the top of letter E in states (and other places). Can someone please explain why sometimes you see a shadow like it's a doubled letter but it isn't? Thanks for all your thoughts on this!!
