Hi,
Thanks,
Not all references describe the weights of their specimens so did not include. Typically they are between 5.5g to 6.5g for the single unit variants. I have lots of them, including bulk lots I haven't photographed and attributed yet and they seem to be all in that range.

Thanks for sharing!
I have a fondness / obsession for these types. I am collecting the Philip II bronze coins similar to this type.
To add to your description above: The control mark below the horse is an "A". This makes it SNG Alpha bank 774-776. In this SNG it is listed as "not in Price". 774 has 9 o'clock die-axis whilst 775 and 776 are at 6 o'clock.

As you say, I don't think it is possible to assess whether the coin is cast from the photos supplied above or from the colour of the metal alone. It is certainly not similar to the cast fakes in FORVM's fake reports. I will say that the patina does look to me like the coin was stripped and it was applied afterwards (especially in the second photo).
I'm not sure I agree that the detail is different on bronze coins. Look at this example (ex CNG) for example, which is also SNG Cop 244: https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=1242344
I don't have my SNG Cop. with my right now but will check it when I get home.
Justin, what is the weight of your coin and can you post a bigger photo so we can see the surfaces of the coin together with a photo of the edge - on the edge, do you see evidence of a casting seam or attempts to remove it i.e. filing? |

Hi,
I am by no means an expert.
HOWEVER:
The weight is within the correct range.
It is not in FORVM's fake reports.
The details are not soft / soapy.
Importantly - I cannot find a casting twin / mother in online auction databases. I looked at all of the ones of the same type as yours.
Were it not for the raised dots which I agree would be of concern otherwise, I would not have had any doubt about your coin if were mine. The toning also looks genuine, not like the toning you would find on a cast fake.

Hi there,
I do not think it is a Kushan coin. Kushan coins have Baktrian text. I have the ANS catalogue on Kushan coins and can double check when I get home later but I am fairly confident it is not Kushan as I have not seen one like this.
It does not have greek writing so I do not think it would be byzantine.
I am stumped.
Hopefully someone else can offer you assistance.
Where did you find it?
