And then continuing with last Sunday's adventures...

Starting with the random assortment of mostly/only European coins..

Then a fair bit of German Marks, why not?

Proceeding with the usual high-value currency lots of Denmark and Switzerland...

And finishing up with a nice silver lot including another silver lucky charm!

All in all SEK 300 worth, covered by the Danish and Swiss coins alone...

After all this however, I will be taking a bit of a break as I will do another large trip to the Philippines, where I doubt there will be much of a coin market. As per usual, I will post whatever comes my way

Cheers

Hey again... end of the week, I'm around and a little money gets spent...

First lot is the main lots of today...

Coins!
1 Öre SM, Sweden 1739
25 Öre, Sweden 1973 (ground find!)
2 Kronor, Sweden 2019 (ground find!)
25 Satang, Thailand (x2)
10 Qirsh, Egypt 1960 (x2)
5 Kroner, Norway 1998
10 Kroner, Norway 1995
20 Kroner, Norway 1999 & 2003

Banknotes!
1 Krone, Norway 1917
10 (Nuevos) Soles, Peru 2005
10 Bolivianos, Bolivia series H & I
20 Bolivianos, Bolivia series I

This all went for SEK 130... a good start

And lastly there was this old savings bank with what I thought to be mostly 1950's silver 25 öre coins, and I was mostly right!

Paid a mere SEK 20 for this silver lot.

All for now

Thank you for these IDs and links! Really helpful!

Since #2 has a rather ugly stain on the portrait and #3 have some corrosion spots, what would be some good ways to hopefully fix these problems? I'm not sure an acetone bath would fix any of this and unfortunately most methods I've used are rather abrasive and have been done on considerably less interesting coins. Any suggestions are welcome!

Hello everybody of the ancient world! I've got these three what I suspect to be Roman coins that I cannot identify myself

Does anyone have an idea what any of these are?

#1 - Bronze Ø17mm

#2 - Silver Ø23mm

#3 - Also silver Ø23mm (longest)

Cheers

By the way, do you find out anything about that gold medal or coin related to BMW?

Oh that piece? It's now been a while but it remains a mystery. All I know is that it's a fancy gold medal that will be with me for a while

What do you usually do with some coins and notes that are demonetized?

Collecting (hoarding), my friend
In all seriousness, I do try to sell much of the duplicates/excess I'm getting. I used to send lots of common coins to the scrapper's sorted by metal but despite how common some of these pieces are there seems to be someone out there who's interested in bulk lots like those. Same goes with banknotes, I usually try to sell off any duplicates no matter the quality and they do find new homes when they're no longer wanted here

And here's the last installment of this catch-up trilogy... a more modest collection.

A UK 1985 new effigy set and a Swedish 2 Öre SM 1765 for SEK 70. Interesting point is that for 1985, there were no circulation issues of the 5p, 10p and 50p - the 'new' effigy 10p wasn't even released for circulation at all until it was downsized in 1992!

Cheers for now

The next sunday saw some better luck finding coins, specially the typical neighbouring countries' high denominations!

A nice NOK 178 in legal tender currency and a 10 kr commemorative I didn't have before!

A more modest hunk of Danish coins and some DKK 49 in legal tender currency

Perhaps the most interesting part of this lot? Ethiopian 1x25 Santeem 1977 + 13x1 Birr 2010! For reference, there is no 2 Birr denomination so the 1 Birr coin gets circulated a lot as evidenced by the sheer quantity here

Some exonumia, a large chunk of medals from some sports fishing club. No precious metals here unfortunately, all plated copper.

And here's the last bits and bobs - some interesting Costa Rican pieces, otherwise just the common bits you'd find here ofte.

All in all a combination of two lots costing me a meagre SEK 150

Well I have to apologise to all loyal readers of this ongoing series... I've been too busy to sit down and post recent finds, so I will now cheekily post three Sundays in a row..

This Sunday saw some old banknote hunting+a small bag of coins for SEK 110 total. Admittingly it's been a while since I last saw the old 100kr notes in person, nice to get two (sequentials!) specimens to hold on for a while.

Hi there! The orbits you are confused about are the ribbons or 'wrappings' around the wheat stalks on the soviet emblem, each representing a member country of the USSR (oddly reminiscent of the US and stars...)

Some of the most obvious examples of the differences in orbits are the additions of member states starting in the 1930's:

7 orbits; -1936

11 orbits; 1937-1947

16 orbits; 1948-1956

15 orbits; 1957-1991

Hope this helps a bit

Well after quite some hibernation (alternatively escaping to another country for a while...), we're back to see what there is..

1 Gulden, Netherlands 1939
1 Frank, Switzerland 1921
20 Kroner, Norway 1994
5 Mark, Germany 1979-D

All this for 80 kr - another good buy! Unfortunately there really wasn't much more, the weather hasn't been great lately and there just doesn't seem to be too many people around. Well see what next time brings

Since I deal with lots of world coins of varying condition and interest, I've taken to selling stuff I don't want anymore. While it is plenty of extra work and most of the stuff go for cheap, most of my interactions are positive and I gain special satisfaction knowing the coins are much more appreciated on the other end. Sometimes people bid like crazy too so it helps fund new buys

So I finally had some time to make it back for another day at the market. Today's offerings were quite few and far between but I found two sellers that had lots to offer. Total spent for today just 140 kr.

2 Pence, UK 1987 & 2001
5 Pence, UK 1990
20 Pence, UK 1987
50 Pence, UK 1997 & 2005
1 Pound, UK 1984 &2000
2 Pounds, UK 2005

2 Cents, Australia 1978
10 Baht, Thailand 2011
1 Cent, US 1945, 1949, 1953-D, 1951, 1964-D
5 Cents, US 1949-D & 1964
1 Dime, US 1965

1 Dime, US 1960
1/4 Dollar, US 1936, 1961-D, 1964 (x3), 1966 (x2) & 1986

1 Markka, Finland 1961
10 Penniä, Finland 1964, 1976, 1977 & 1986
20 Penniä, Finland 1963
1 Markka, Finland 1965, 1972(x2) & 1973

2 Ngwee, Zambia 1968
1 Shillingi, Tanzaia 1966
10 Shillingi, Tanzania 1992
1 Sen, Malaysia 1985, 1992 & 2003 (x2)
5 Sen, Malaysia 1982
10 Sen, Malaysia 1967, 1981 & 1982

10 Sen, Malaysia 1991 & 2001 (x2)
50 Sen, Malaysia 1984
1 Ringgit, Malaysia 1986 (x4)

1 Peseta Spain 1987
10 Yen, Japan Showa 49 & Heisei 1
100 Yen, Japan Showa 51 & 61

The US silvers seemed to be part of someone's US trip in the 1960's together with the wheaties. Also quite surprised to see four of the same Malaysian Ringgits, very similar high condition, I wonder if all four were given in change at some point? Fun coins nonetheless.

That's all for now!

So what do you do with all of these?

It varies! The first coins that will go of these are the Norwegian coins as I'm planning on making it close to the Norwegian border soon where they can be used in border shops. For the Danish coins, I'm likewise planning on making a trip however quick it might be to exchange older and newer coins for notes and use leftovers as travel currency. Same goes for many currencies I get, UK pounds and euros for instance. Many coins also go up for trading as I'm sure my trading buddies are aware. Otherwise I'm always looking for upgrades and new type coins/notes, and anything else is sorted and added to the accumulation!

I like the coin with the gators!

Interestingly, I think this is the first time I've ever seen PNG coins for sale in person in Sweden. Not that they are particularly rare, it's just that some world coins don't really make it to the other side of the world.

So I made it to the market today and activity was quite high which is a brilliant setup for any coin hunting session. Today's results:

2 Zlote, Poland 1994 (x2) & 1995 (x2)
½ Penny, Jersey 1980
2 Pence, Jersey 1992
50 Pence, UK 1997, 1998, 2001 (x3) & 2006
2 Lati, Latvia 1992
5 Pesos, Mexico 2008 & 2009
1 Dollar, Canada 1987
1 Kina, Papua New Guinea 1975 (x2)
25 Øre, Norway 1916
5 Centavos, Argentina 1938
10 Milliemes, Egypt 1929
1 Markka, Finland 1965
5 Sheqalim, Israel (x5)
10 Sheqalim, Israel (x7)

And an additional DKK 205 and NOK 65.

All for a total of SEK 190 - less than the same nominal in Danish kroner. A good day after not having made it for a couple of weeks. Also quite pleased about the Papuan coins and Norwegian silvers!

Well it has been quite a while but cases are dropping in Sweden while the vaccination rate is getting higher, so I've decided to return to showing the stuff I find on the same, original market in central Stockholm. However, due to work over the summer I will not be doing this weekly or so.

So after the long hiatus there were immediately some things to see. 150kr worth gives you this:

20 Centavos, Honduras 1973
50 Piastres, Lebanon 1952
10 Sheqalim, Israel
20 Kroner, Norway 2002
10 Kroner, Denmark 1979
Thailand, 5 Baht 1982

20 Kroner, Denmark 1996
5 Mark, Germany 1967-J, 1970-F & 1975-F
2 Krooni, Estonia 1930

See you all for the next time

That coin hasn't been in circulation for 35 years - it should have had a very brief circulation life as Mexico was suffering from pretty high inflation in the 1980's - the currency was redenominated in 1992 and thus this coin could would no longer be legal tender and circulating since then. What you're looking at here I suspect is a grease filled die, obscuring some details. Add to the fact that this is a steel coin and is quite wear resistant.
