Got these in a Christmas card from my Aunt. Not quite sure if they are Chinese or Japanese. Can someone please help with identity and possibly a little translation?

Whatever they are they make a great addition to my wife's foreign coin collection.

1st set

2nd set (Her 1st Holed coins)

Thanks in advance for any help...Mont.

All of these are current Japanse coins, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 100 Yen. For reference, 1 Yen is worth about a US cent. The two holed coins are 50 and 5 Yen respectively. I can't help out with dates since Japan uses their "emperor reign" calendar. This is what's written under the denomination digits. On the obverse of all coins is "Japan" written, along with the denomination in Japanese characters. The 5 Yen coin is slightly different, with denomination written oit in Japanese on the obverse and date and "Japan on the obverse (the side with only Japanese characters).

Thanks all.

I did a little research on dates dates and I believe, if I did it right, the dates are:

1 Yen: 1999
5 Yen: 1976
10 Yen: 2009
50 Yen: 1969
100 Yen: 2009

I've mentioned this before, but the following has been very helpful for me with Japanese coins if I'm allowed to post it.

You need to subtract 1 after adding the number of years.
e.g. Heisei year 1 is 1989, so if the coin says year 2, it's 1990, not 1989 + 2.
i.e It's 1989 + 2 - 1 = 1990

Showa year 1 is 1926

1 Yen: 1998 (year 10 Heisei)
5 Yen: 1975 (Year 50 Showa)
10 Yen: 2008 (year 20 Heisei)
50 Yen: 1969 (Year 44 Showa)
100 Yen: 2008 (year 20 Heisei)
